'Raid 2': Vaani Kapoor Replaces Ileana D'Cruz, Ajay Devgn Reveals The Reason Behind It

Ajay Devgn and Vaani Kapoor will be seen as a married couple in Raj Kumar Gupta’s upcoming crime thriller, Raid 2, a sequel to the blockbuster film, Raid. Previously, in Raid, Ileana D’Cruz played the role of Ajay Devgn’s wife. With the sequel, Raid 2, Vaani Kapoor replaced Ileana D’Cruz.

Ajay Devgn gave James Bond's reference to explain the character replacement of Ileana in Raid 2

In Raid, Ileana was seen playing the role of Ajay’s character, Amay Patnaik’s wife. The sequel, Raid 2, brings up a major change in casting by replacing Ileana D’Cruz. During the press meet of the trailer launch, Ajay revealed the reason behind replacing Ileana and said:

“That’s true, but the character can change. I mean if you see a lot of Hollywood films also, you know Sean Connery is no more James Bond. It’s the character you follow.”

Ritesh Deshmukh joined the team of Raid 2

In the trailer of the film, Raid 2, Ritesh Deshmukh was seen as an antagonist who challenges Ajay Devgn. Ritesh Deshmukh plays the role of an influential dishonest politician. In Raid 2, 'Amay Patnaik', the character played by Ajay Devgn, was seen trying hard to hunt down 'Dada Manohar Bhai', the character played by Ritesh.

Vaani Kapoor's take on replacing Ileana D’Cruz in Raid 2

In the sequel, Raid 2, Vaani Kapoor would be playing the role of 'Malini Patnaik', which was earlier played by Ileana. When the reports of Vaani replacing Ileana's character started doing the rounds, Vaani clarified:

“No jealousy with the previous one. We share a great equation off-screen. You just try to play your part in the most authentic manner and follow the brief of the director and writer. This film showcases a different side of me. It felt new and refreshing.”

Raid 2 will also feature Tamannaah Bhatia

Raid 2, the sequel of the 2018 blockbuster hit, Raid is directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Ritesh Deshmukh and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles. There are references to Mahabharata in the film. Tamannaah Bhatia will also be seen in an item song. The former antagonist, Saurabh Shukla, will also be seen in the sequel, Raid 2.
