'Veerana' Fame, Kumar Ramsay Dies At 85, 'King Of Horror Films' Passes Away Due To Cardiac Arrest

After the demise of iconic actor, Dilip Kumar, Indian cinema suffered another huge loss, as the eldest of the Ramsay Brothers, Kumar Ramsay passed away on Thursday due to cardiac arrest at his home.

'Veerana' Fame, Kumar Ramsay Dies At 85, 'King Of Horror Films' Passes Away Due To Cardiac Arrest

On July 7, 2021, Indian cinema's greatest actor, Dilip Kumar, passed away at Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital, leaving the whole nation shocked. But, unfortunately, it wasn't even 24 hours, and Bollywood industry suffered another major loss as it was reported that Kumar Ramsay died at the age of 85 at his home. Sadly, the man behind most of Ramsay Brothers' horror movies in the '70s and '80s is no longer with us.

For the unversed, 'Ramsay Brothers' is a term used for the seven sons of F.U. Ramsay, who made some cult and iconic horror films, mainly in the '70s. The brother’s name are Kumar Ramsay, Keshu Ramsay, Tulsi Ramsay, Karan/Kiran Ramsay, Shyam Ramsay, Gangu Ramsay, and Arjun Ramsay. All the seven brothers had worked together and divided different filmmaking departments among them to make horror films. Kumar Ramsay handled the scripting of all the films made by the Ramsay Brothers.

In his conversation with the PTI (Press Trust Of India), Kumar Ramsay's eldest son, Gopal, confirmed his father's demise. The devastated son stated that Kumar Ramsay passed away around 5:30 a.m. on July 8, 2021. Gopal also added that his dad passed away quietly, and the funeral was performed around 12 p.m. In his words, "He (Kumar Ramsay) passed away due to cardiac arrest, today morning around 5:30 a.m. He passed away very quietly. The funeral will take place around 12 p.m. We are waiting for the priest to arrive."

According to the biography of the Ramsay Brothers, Don't Disturb the Dead: The Story of the Ramsay Brothers, it is stated that the Ramsay family came to Mumbai after the partition in 1947. Kumar Ramsay's father, F.U. Ramsay had opened a small electronic shop at the Lamington Road. Soon, he was lured by the limelight and glamour of the Hindi cinema and had made a place for himself in the show business.

Soon F.U. Ramsay's sons had taken their father's work to a gigantic level after they have changed it into a family business. While on one side, the Ramsay brothers had divided the production work according to their knowledge and interest, on the other side, their mother and wives had taken care of the food and make-up of the entire cast and crew. It was indeed a perfect family business for the Ramsay Brothers. Some of their most famous films are Do Ghaz Zameen Ke Niche, Andhera, Ghungroo Ki Awaaz, Veerana, and Bandh Darwaza.

Bollywood actor, Ajay Devgn has acquired the rights to produce a biopic on the Ramsay Brothers, and the movie will be titled, The Ramsay Biopic.
