Vicky Kaushal Recalls The First Time He Met Katrina Kaif: 'I Didn't Know That She Knew Me'

Bollywood’s heartthrob, Vicky Kaushal and the evergreen beauty, Katrina Kaif, never fail to shell out pure couple goals. Their playful banter at a 2019 award show sparked dating rumours, but they kept their romance under wraps until their grand wedding in 2021. While filmmaker, Karan Johar once spilled the beans that their first ‘proper’ meeting happened at Zoya Akhtar’s party, Vicky has now revealed when they were officially introduced for the first time.

During a recent chat with Pinkvilla, Vicky Kaushal took a trip down memory lane as he recalled meeting Katrina Kaif backstage at an award show in 2019. At the time, Vicky was co-hosting the event and had even danced to some of Katrina’s hit songs alongside Kartik Aaryan. Recalling that day, Vicky shared:

"I can’t remember which award function that was, but this is probably Screen… So, I was hosting, and I think this was the first time I ever met her and interacted with her. On stage, we have that gear in our ears through which we’re constantly being instructed from behind—like, ‘Do this... do that...’ It keeps guiding you, and everything is scripted. But behind the stage, it was the first time we were formally introduced to each other. Yeah. So that... who knew?"

When asked if he was nervous before meeting Katrina, the actor confidently shrugged it off, saying, “Nahi, nervous kya hona”. To this, Chhava director, Laxman Utekar,  who was present during the interview, jokingly chimed in, “Chhaava nervous hota hai kya?”. Amid this fun exchange, Vicky praised Katrina for being incredibly warm during their first meeting. He was heard saying:

"But she was extremely sweet. I didn’t know that she would be knowing me, but she was extremely sweet."

Vicky and Katrina’s love story

Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif’s love story is something which developed quite organically, bereft of unnecessary drama, jealousy or clashes. Vicky had previously admitted that Katrina used to be his celebrity crush.

In a chat with Raj Shamani, Vicky shared how their love story began with random and unplanned meetings. It was not before an interview that they had even spoken to each other. Vicky was quoted as saying:

“The first few times, nothing was planned ki hum milne ka plan kar rahe hain ya hum baat kar rahe hain. The first time we ever spoke to each other was part of an interview while the cameras were rolling. Of course, we had each other’s number and we would randomly bump into each other. Aisa kuch nahin tha. I think some things are just meant to happen. Sometimes you realise that it is happening against all odds and that’s how it happened. After a point, we stopped questioning and analysing it, and became committed to it.”

What’s next for Vicky Kaushal?

On his professional front, Vicky has been quite busy promoting his upcoming film, Chhaava, a historical drama directed by Laxman Utekar. The film, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna, is set to hit the theatres this Valentine’s Day, on February 14, 2025.
