Vijay Sethupathi is one of the most widely recognised Indian actors of regional cinema. He has established a reputation for himself with his nuanced acting and portrayal of distinctive characters. However, Vijay's reputation in the film industry, which had been clean once, has now been marred by serious allegations of casting couch made against him by a woman named Ramya Mohan. The Tamil actor has finally broken his silence and refuted the claims.
Vijay Sethupathi has currently found himself embroiled in a controversy after a woman named Ramya Mohan accused him of exploiting a young woman she knows. Now, Vijay has given his official statements on the scandal in an interview with Deccan Chronicle and completely refuted the claims. The actor called the casting couch allegations 'filthy' and stated that anyone who knows him will 'laugh at this'. Then Vijay further accused the woman, Ramya Mohan, of trying to use his name to get noticed. In the interview, Vijay was quoted as saying:
“Anyone who knows me even remotely will laugh at this. I know myself too. This kind of filthy accusation can’t upset me. My family and close friends are upset, but I tell them, ‘Let it slide. This woman is obviously doing it to be noticed. She has her few minutes of fame, let her enjoy it.”
In the same interview, Vijay Sethupathi expressed that over the past years, he faced many such 'whispering campaigns' to tarnish his image. However, such targeting has never affected him and never will, said the actor. Vijay also mentioned he has taken the issue to cybercrime and complained about the tweet which accused him of casting couch. The actor stated:
“We’ve complained to cybercrime. I’ve faced all kinds of whispering campaigns for seven years. Such targeting has not affected me so far. It never will. My new film is doing well. Probably, some jealous elements think that by tarnishing me they can damage my film. It doesn’t work that way."
An X user named Ramya Mohan made a scathing tweet against Vijay Sethupathi, accusing him of exploiting a young woman under the guise of 'industry norms'. The accuser wrote that the alleged victim is in rehabilitation after years of manipulation and being 'used' by the Tamil actor. Ramya Mohan further said that this isn't one story and expressed that "Kollywood's drug and casting couch culture isn't a joke". The X user also directly tagged Vijay Sethupathi's account handle while posting the tweet against him. However, as of now, nothing else is known about who Ramya Mohan is. The X handle has also been deleted after the tweet gained traction.
