Bollywood actor, Vijay Varma is one of the prominent faces of Bollywood. He started his acting journey with the film, Shor, directed by the popular filmmaker duo, Raj And DK. Since then, Vijay Varma has received acclaim and maintained his demand in the industry. His prominent films and shows include Pink, Gully Boy, Darlings, Murder Mubarak, Mirzapur, and more. However, having no 'godfather' in the industry, the actor had to go through a struggling phase before achieving success. In his recent interview, Vijay revealed that he was also dropped from projects like Sacred Games.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Vijay Varma opened up about his acting journey and how he had to go through several auditions for even a small opportunity. The actor, who was recently seen in the series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, is in the spotlight, but that was not always the case. He reminisced that before Gully Boy, even if the directors found some potential in him, they would not consider him for their movies. It was only after the film was released that offers began to come in for Vijay Varma.

The Jaane Jaan actor also looked back at the time when he was waitlisted and locked in for the roles, but still got dropped out. Talking about the same, he mentioned that he was confirmed for a role in Sacred Games, and even did his costume measurements but then he got dropped from the project. He said:
"In some auditions, I was on the waitlist, in the top five, top two and then I was locked and then I was dropped! I was locked in Sacred Games, I did my costume measurements and then I got dropped. Stuff like that has happened, but some part of me kept the faith and belief. Work started coming in after Gully Boy, but I think I was so starved for work, that I took a lot of it after the film."
Vijay Varma has played both morally good characters and appeared in negative roles. However, since he has played a negative role in the Mirzapur series and the movie, Darlings, he has been typecast for negative roles. When the actor was questioned about the same, he replied that even he didn't know when he got typecasted. Vijay said that he tried to break out of this image but couldn't do so. He said:
"When Darlings happened, I couldn’t imagine myself in that role and then a series of roles happened where I was playing extremely devious, atrocious or devious men. A part of me wanted to break it but I couldn’t possibly do it myself. I found great support in filmmakers, who said they had seen me like that and wanted to offer me something new."
The actor further said that the filmmaker, Sujoy Ghosh, helped him a lot by offering him a new role in Jaane Jaan, where he played the role of an inspector. The other roles played by Vijay Varma in shows like Murder Mubarak, directed by Homi Adajania, and IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, directed by Anubhav Sinha, showcased the actor in a new light and helped him break the stereotype. "The industry works in mysterious ways, when they see potential in you, they also want to give you the chance to tap on the other side of you. I didn’t break any stereotypes, because I didn’t make any stereotypes. They made it, they broke it."
