The critically-acclaimed film, Shershaah was not just one of the highest-grossing films of 2021 but it is also close to many people’s lives. The biographical drama is a fitting tribute to the sacrifice and valour of Captain Vikram Batra, whose heroism during the 1999 Kargil War is still a magnificent achievement in India’s history. Apart from Vikram Batra’s family, the film is also quite special for Bollywood stars, Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, as it was their first film together. While Sidharth played Vikram Batra, Kiara portrayed the late soldier’s fiancee, Dimple Cheema's character in the film.
On February 7, 2023, Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Suryagarh Palace in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. However, their wedding was a close-knit affair, which their family and close relatives attended. The couple organised a grand reception at St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai, which was attended by some of the biggest names in the glamour world. Among them was Captain Vikam Batra’s brother, Vishal Batra, who attended the reception with his wife, Dr Apara Sharma and their daughter, Aadya.

In an interview with the ETimes, Vishal Batra opened up about the emotions he had experienced while attending Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding reception. The doting brother admitted that it was an extremely emotional moment for him as, for him, it was like attending the wedding of his brother, Vikram and his fiancee, Dimple. He said:
"I met Sidharth in December 2015 when the idea of the movie came up. We have been in touch regularly despite the fact that the movie released two years ago, and he is a good friend now. It was lovely of him to invite us. For me, it was also a feeling that I couldn’t see Vikram’s wedding… It took me through various emotions, and being an identical twin, it’s something that can’t be explained in words."
Further, in the same interview, Vishal Batra also confirmed that Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani fell in love with each other during the shooting of Shershaah. Vishal also added that he is extremely happy to see Sidharth and Kiara tying the knot with each other. He wished them all the love and light for their happy married life. Talking about the same, he stated:
"I never spoke to Sidharth about it. Shabbir Boxwala (co-producer of Shershaah) did tell me they were planning to get married. I think they got closer because of the movie (Shershaah), and I am very happy they got married. Our blessings are with them. They are a lovely couple."
