Shefali Jariwala’s untimely death has left the whole entertainment industry heartbroken. For the unversed, Shefali passed away on June 27, 2025, due to cardiac arrest. Reports are coming up that the cause of death might be the anti-ageing medications that the actress had been using for the past few years. However, in a recent interview, filmmaker and one of the makers of Kaanta Laga, Vinay Sapru, recalled his last meeting with the actress. He also shared a fact regarding the iconic song.
In a candid conversation with ETimes, Vinay shared that the untimely demise of Shefali Jariwala has been extremely shocking for him, as he met her just 20 days back before her death. Vinay revealed that Shefali visited their office and brought cakes and pastries from her favourite Japanese bakery. In fact, the actress also discussed her plans for making new projects while having dinner. The actress also recalled the beautiful 20 years that she spent due to Kaanta Laga. In his words:
"We had just met 20 days ago, so this news has come as a complete shock. She had come to our office, bringing cakes and pastries from one of those Japanese bakeries she loved. She was so full of life—saying, “I’ve turned 40 now. I’ve had an incredible 20 years, all thanks to where we began back then. And now I’ve come to plan the next 20 with you. She stayed for nearly five hours—we had dinner together and spoke at length. We were making plans: songs we wanted to create, the kind of cinema we wanted to explore, the events we were going to curate. Her live performances had been such a massive success, and we were all set to take that to the next level."
In the same conversation, Vinay shared that they had earlier received requests from the audience to remake Kaanta Laga 2 and 3, but hadn’t had the opportunity to do so. However, after Shefali’s untimely demise, the makers have decided to never recreate the iconic song and instead preserve the actress’ legacy through it. Vinay also shared that the actress had always wished to be the 'Kaanta Laga Girl', and thus, they had made this decision. In his words:
"The only thing we can hold onto now is the memory of the incredible life she lived—those 20 magnificent years that began with Kaanta Laga. As for Kaanta Laga—we won’t make another. Over the years, so many people have asked us to do Kaanta Laga 2 or 3, but we never could. And now, we never will. We, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, are retiring Kaanta Laga. It was the first and the last—because it belongs to Shefali. It always did. She wanted to be remembered as the Kaanta Laga girl, and she always will be."
Earlier in a podcast show with Paras Chhabra, Shefali was asked whether she had ever grown tired of being called the 'Kaanta Laga Girl'. In response, the actress said that it had never happened and she wanted to be remembered forever as the 'Kaanta Laga Girl'. Shefali also stated that she wanted to live with the tag until she dies. In her words:
"There can only be one Kaanta Laga girl in the world, and that is me. I love it and I want to be known as the Kaanta Laga girl till the day I die."
