Vir Das Is The First India To Host Emmy Awards, Urges Indian Students And Label To Design His Outfit

Vir Das, a stand-up comedian who has not only conquered the Indian entertainment scene but also made a mark globally. He made his American television debut in 2019 with the show, Whiskey Cavalier, and it was just the beginning. Since then, he has been steadily expanding his fanbase overseas, making Indians proud of his achievements. Now, the comedian has made history by becoming the first ever Indian to be hosting the International Emmy Awards.

Vir Das ditched International brands and called aspiring Indian designers to make his outfit for the Emmy Awards

Vir Das added yet another feather to his cap as he became the first-ever Indian who got the opportunity to host the prestigious Emmy Awards.While this is a huge opportunity, it's his thoughtful gesture that won our hearts. Vir took to his Instagram and shared that he will not be wearing any international designer and will promote Indian brands. In Vir's words:

“Alright folks. I’m going to be the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards. I’m going to wear something Indian from home. I’m also not going to wear a fancy designer. They have enough cash and clients. So we’re gonna launch someone new. So if you're a budding designer, label, or student and you can put together super formal stuff, send us an email.”

Vir added that if there are any aspiring Indian students, designers, and labels, they can email him and his team. In return, he will tag them and do all the necessary things. He added that the theme is formal, and the designers should make him look polished in Western or Indo-western clothes. Vir further added:

“This is super duper ultra formal wear at a very high level for a very large audience. You have to make me look good in formal wear which is a task I assure you :-) It HAS TO BE INDIAN OR INDO-WESTERN FUSION. I do not need a tuxedo.”

When Vir Das won the Emmy International Award

In November 2023, Vir Das made India proud by winning the 2023 International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series for his comedy special, Vir Das: Landing, on Netflix. As soon as he confirmed the news by posting a lovely picture with the Emmy trophy, a series of celebrities and his Instagram family of 1.3 million people bombarded the comment section of his post with their lovely congratulatory wishes.

On November 21, 2023, Vir Das took to his Instagram handle and posted two lovely pictures with the Emmy trophy, which he won at the 51st International Emmy Awards. While Vir Das could be spotted posing with his trophy in the first picture, he was posing alongside Reg Tigerman and Akash Rajkumar Sharma in the second picture. Along with the pictures, Vir Das penned a lovely note in the caption, and it could be read as:

"For India. For Indian comedy. Every breath, every word. Thank you to the @iemmys for this incredible honour."
