Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Announce Their Retirement From T20Is After Winning The T20 WC 2024

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the two of the most amazing players of the Indian cricket team, contributed a lot to the country and gave their all to the game. However, it was on June 29, 2024, when India won the title of World Champions after beating South Africa by seven runs at the T20 World Cup. Following the same, Virat and Rohit announced their retirement from T20 international cricket.

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the T20 International cricket

Rohit Sharma, in a media conference after winning the match, announced his retirement from the T20 international cricket. Rohit mentioned that there was no better time than to bid farewell to this format. Announcing his retirement from the T20I format, Rohit mentioned that he started his career with this, and this is what he always wanted. Rohit said that he wanted this cup and the title badly and can't even express how much he wanted this. Stating that he was desperate to win and is happy to cross the line, Rohit said:

"This was my last [T20I] game as well. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup. I wanted this badly. Very hard to put in words. It was a very emotional moment for me. I was very desperate for this title in my life. Happy that we eventually crossed the line."

Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 international cricket

Virat Kohli made 76 runs in 59 balls, which paved the way for India to win the World Champions trophy. However, when he was declared as the 'man of the match,' the player announced his retirement from the T20 international cricket. While speaking to the broadcast just after the win, Virat Kohli shared that it was his last T20 World Cup, and it's all he wanted to achieve. He also called this a 'now and never kind of situation' and added that it was the last T20I game that he played for India. Virat can be quoted as saying:

"This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel like you can't get a run and this happens, God is great. Just the occasion, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup."

Talking about the same, Virat mentioned that it's an open secret and added that he would announce it even if Team India would have not won the match. Virat revealed that it's time for the next generation to take forward the game, and it's been long for him and Rohit. He shared that it was his sixth and Rohit's ninth T20 World Cup, and the latter truly deserved this. Virat can be quoted as saying:

"Yes I have [announced my retirement from T20Is], this was an open secret. It was not something that I wasn't going to announce even if we had lost. It's time for the next generation to take the T20 game forward. It's been a long wait for us, waiting to win an ICC tournament. You look at someone like Rohit, he's played nine T20 World Cups and this is my sixth. He deserves it."

Virat Kohli hinted at moving abroad after his retirement?

Since when Anushka Sharma gave birth to Akaay in the UK, rumours have been rife that the couple might settle there. On the other hand, Virat might subtly confirm this. While talking to RCB during IPL 2024, Virat talked about his retirement plans. He mentioned that he would want to have a long break after he announces his retirement and wouldn't want to have any regrets about anything. Virat also stated that when he would be gone, no one would be able to see him for even a while, which was possibly a hint of moving abroad.
