Everyone knows that cricket is not a mere sport or a profession for Virat Kohli. Rather, it's his first love that is evident in his training schedule, discipline and career statistics. But apart from cricket, Virat equally loves his wife, Anushka Sharma and never shies away from showcasing his love for her. The love was again displayed a while ago when Virat hit the last ball in India's clash against Pakistan to score his 51st hundred in one-day international cricket. Here's everything you need to know about Virat Kohli's 'locket tale.'
A while ago, Virat Kohli hit a four to claim the winning runs against Pakistan, and scored his 51th ODI century. Since everyone was hooked on the high-stakes match, a crowd erupted in Dubai's stadium at the last ball, and fans watching around the world applauded Virat. However, rather than basking in the praise, he quickly pulled out his locket, holding his wedding ring to kiss and flaunt it.
Some might consider it celebratory, but Virat's fans know well that it wasn't a mere gesture to highlight his success. Instead, it is a way for a 'man in love' to honour the support and love of his wife, Anushka Sharma, who has stood by him like a rock in the most difficult times of his career. Despite being called out for his poor performance on-field, the actress constantly supported Virat at every step, and his gesture to honour her is one of the biggest love stories woven in the world of cricket.
This is certainly not the first time Virat Kohli made the heartfelt gesture to pull out his locket after scoring a century. Instead, it all goes back to 2018, when the world first witnessed Virat Kohli's 'locket celebration'. It happened after he scored a stunning 153 balls, taking India's total to a massive 300 runs amid challenging conditions in Centurion, South Africa. As soon as he reached the important milestone, he quickly pulled out his locket and kissed it.
Everyone was intrigued by his gesture, and soon, it was revealed that the ace cricketer had kissed the engagement ring Anushka had given him before their wedding in 2017. For those unaware, when Virat dated Anushka, and she came to the stadium to watch his matches, she was blamed for his poor performance. Particularly after India lost the 2015 World Cup, critics and fans lashed out at her. So, kissing the gold ring certainly symbolises how he dedicates his biggest achievements and success to his life partner, who held his hand.

After the first 'locket celebration', India went to England, and India lost half of their wickets at 100 runs. However, Virat again smashed 128 runs with the remaining half team to take the match forward and kissed his engagement ring on his 22nd Test century. Since then, every time Virat scores a century, whether it was his comeback century in 2022 or his 50th ODI century in 2023, we see a new chapter in the 'locket tale.'
Anushka Sharma immediately becomes the camera's focus whenever she comes to cheer for the team in the stadium. So, there have been times when she witnessed him kissing his wedding ring. Initially, in 2018, when Virat walked out after scoring 149 in England, Anushka was seen smiling to the camera with pride in her eyes as her husband took over the field. She doesn't speak much about his game, but her cheers say it all.
After Virat Kohli decided to dedicate his century at Edgbaston to Anushka, Harsha Bhogle famously said, "A man in love celebrates a hundred," and we can't agree more.
