After a positive response to six seasons, Virgin River is returning with the seventh season on March 12, 2026. The basic premise of the show focused on a nurse practitioner named 'Melinda ‘Mel’ Monroe,' who arrives in Los Angeles for a new beginning in her life. Season 1 was released in 2019 and had ten episodes. It was followed by five more seasons until December 2024. Except for the fifth season, all the episodes were released together on the same day for the other installments.
Virgin River Season 7 was confirmed before the release of Season 6 in 2024. Sue Tenney is not returning as a showrunner this time, and the responsibilities have been taken over by Patrick Sean Smith, who joined the series in the fifth season. The release date of Virgin River Season 7 was confirmed in January 2026. According to Deadline, the new season will be arriving 15 months after the premiere of the sixth season. Moreover, Netflix revealed a picture of the lead characters from the show at the same time. The upcoming season will have ten episodes, and all of them will premiere on the same day. The episodes are being directed by Andy Mikita, Andrew Cummings, Monika Mitchell, Ruba Nadda, and Felipe Rodriguez. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has also written the final episode of Season 7.

The sixth season of Virgin River ended with a pregnant patient of 'Mel,' 'Marley,' saying that she wants 'Mel' and 'Jack' to adopt her baby. For the unversed, 'Mel' had a miscarriage in the fifth season. Martin Henderson, who plays 'Jack' in the show, said in an interview with Tudum in 2024 that it has been interesting to see 'Mel' and 'Jack' going through something that was unexpected and then finding a way out that brought them closer to each other. However, Martin mentioned that although the couple can fulfil their dream, it might turn out to be different than their expectations.

Moreover, 'Brie' was spotted defending 'Preacher,' the best friend of 'Jack,' who is accused of being involved with the disappearance of 'Paige's' former partner. Apart from that, 'Lizzie' and 'Denny' are ready to become parents. Furthermore, 'Hope' and 'Doc' discover a possible issue that might emerge in the latter's practice. 'Mel' starts developing a close bond with her birth father, 'Everett,' leading to a backstory of 'Mel's' parents.

According to Patrick Sean Smith, Virgin River Season 7 will focus on 'Mel' and 'Jack’s' honeymoon period, where they are trying to live their lives on the farm, which could have issues of its own. Patrick clarified that the problems will never lead to 'Mel' and 'Jack’s' separation, adding that it is impossible to create this situation. Smith stated that the series will still explore 'Mel' and 'Jack’s' possible relationship problems and that 'Alex' and 'Martin' could play an important role in those moments.

A love triangle is also expected to play an important role in the progress of the storyline in the upcoming season, which will involve 'Brie,' 'Mike,' and 'Brandy.' Moreover, 'Charmaine's' connection with 'Calvin' could take an ugly turn. 'Doc' might be investigated, and he will try to save himself and his clinic from being taken over by a well-known hospital network.
Virgin River Season 7 will undoubtedly mark the return of Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson as 'Mel' and 'Jack.' Lauren Hammersley will also reprise her role as 'Charmaine Roberts.' However, it remains unknown how long she will be featured in the upcoming season. Annette O’Toole will appear as 'Hope McCrea,' followed by Tim Matheson as 'Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins.' Ben Hollingsworth, who has been playing 'Dan Brady' since Season 1, will also return in the series.

Other cast members to be featured in the seventh season include Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, Kandyse McClure, Cody Kearsley, and Sara Canning. Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr’s return as 'Mel’s' parents is not confirmed yet. According to PEOPLE, Austin Nichols filmed for the series in Vancouver in July 2025, and he has been cast for a character linked to 'Mel’s' past.
