Renowned filmmaker, Vivek Agnihotri, has finally broken his silence on Tanushree Dutta’s explosive claims about her unpleasant experience working with him during the 2005 film, Chocolate. The former actress and model had stirred controversy in an old interview when she alleged that the filmmaker behaved rudely with her on set and even subjected her to discomfort due to her costume. In a recent conversation, the Hate Story director addressed the allegations.
Tanushree Dutta, who shot to fame with films like Dhol and Aashiq Banaya Aapne, once talked about her experience working with Vivek Agnihotri. During an old chat with Faridoon Shahryar, Tanushree recalled that the director publicly scolded her when she arrived on set five minutes late. She was quoted as saying:
“One day, when I arrived on set five minutes late, he yelled at me and called me unprofessional. Sometimes, I would come to the set when the lights weren’t even on and nothing was prepared, meaning the setup was completely unready. But on that particular day, I was exactly five minutes late, and he was on set just to see whether I had arrived or not.”
Tanushree described Agnihotri as ‘unprofessional’ and accused him of constantly criticising her attire, adding that he restricted her from covering up in a robe between shots, even when she had to wear revealing clothes. Recalling her experience, the Chocolate actress had once shared:
“Artists are supposed to rest in the van when they’re not shooting. Especially if you’ve given me clothes like these — short clothes and so on. Even when I sat in a robe, he would say, ‘No, there’s a shot coming up, so take it off.’ He would make me sit in those short clothes in front of the entire unit”
In a recent conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast, Vivek Agnihotri finally broke his silence on Tanushree’s explosive accusations. Taking an apparent dig at the former actress’s career trajectory in the past, the filmmaker remarked how actors and actresses don’t think rationally when they are not successful and are under constant pressure to prove their mettle. Without taking any names, Vivek said that he prefers not to pay heed to such accusations and lets people do whatever they want out of their frustrations. He can be quoted as saying:
“Yeh film industry ki aisi baat hai ki actors and actresses par bahut pressure hota hai to be successful. Jab aap successful nahi hote, toh aap kahi baar frustrate ho jaate hai ki you don't know what state of mind you are in. You can't stay in that sanity. You can't be rational. When such things happen to me, I prefer to forgive. People keep talking about you, but I don't take them seriously. I don't like to get engaged in such issues and let them do whatever they want to do.”
While Tanushree Dutta has stayed away from mainstream media for several years, Vivek Agnihotry continues to win hearts with his unique storylines and candid takes on real-life matters. After gaining massive praise for The Kashmir Files in 2022, the filmmaker is gearing up for his upcoming film, The Bengal Files, which is set for a theatrical release on September 5, 2025, and has already created significant buzz.
