Vivek Oberoi Breaks Silence On Life After Split With Aishwarya Rai, 'I Could've Become Plastic...'

In an industry where relationships are often under the harshest spotlight, Vivek Oberoi’s love life has long been a subject of public fascination. Now, decades after his controversial link-up with Aishwarya Rai and, at the same time, an alleged fallout with Salman Khan, the Bollywood actor has candidly opened up about his emotional journey, revealing how heartbreak and public scrutiny shaped, but didn’t define him.

Vivek Oberoi reflects on his turbulent past, split with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Vivek Oberoi rarely speaks about his past relationships, but in a candid chat on Dr Jai Madaan’s YouTube channel, a few months ago, he reflected on his turbulent past with grace. When asked about Salman Khan, he replied, “God bless him.” Speaking of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, he said, “God bless her,” and expressed respect for her husband, Abhishek Bachchan, calling him a “sweetheart” and a “really nice person”.

Decades after the infamous love triangle buzz, Vivek candidly acknowledged that the highly publicised breakup affected him deeply. Recalling how personal pain became tabloid masala, Vivek shared, “Your breakup becomes world news. But moving on is the key to healing.” He also drew an analogy that would resonate with many. He compared heartbreak with a child dropping his lollipop in the mud, stating how it is better to move away from the pain rather than dwelling on it. In his words:

“If someone is leaving your life, think of it this way: A child drops his lollipop in the mud, and his mother won’t allow him to eat it because it is dirty. Life will give you a new partner. The longer you stay with the pain, the more it’ll grow.”

Vivek on recognising self-worth

Vivek Oberoi also spoke about the importance of realising one’s self-worth. Reflecting on his past experience, the actor shared how self-realisation helped him get pulled out of that dark phase. He said:

“I’m speaking from personal experience. Sometimes, we go into abusive relationships where people don’t value or respect us. You stay because you haven’t identified your self-worth.”

Vivek admitted he could have lost himself in superficiality, but despite all the controversies, his journey has been one of healing and introspection. Now, as an older and wiser person, things like online trolling no longer bother him. He remarked:

“Perhaps I would’ve become a superficial person, living a superficial life. Perhaps I would’ve become plastic myself, among people with plastic smiles… If people troll me now, I don’t care. I know my purpose in life, and I know what is truly important to me.”

The love triangle that shook bollywood

In the early 2000s, Bollywood was abuzz with news of Aishwarya Rai’s breakup with Salman Khan in 2002, followed by the controversy surrounding her rumoured relationship with Vivek Oberoi in 2003. This allegedly created a bitter public feud between Vivek and Salman, which also largely affected the former’s film career. Later, Vivek and Aishwarya’s breakup was also highly scrutinised.

But time seems to have healed old wounds. Vivek’s recent revelations suggest a man who has made peace with his past. On the professional front, Vivek was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s Indian Police Force and is now gearing up for his next release, Kesari Veer.

In a world obsessed with plastic smiles, Vivek Oberoi has chosen authenticity. What are your views on this?
