Vivek Oberoi Says Pain From Past Heartbreak Lasted 4-5 Years, 'Girl Left And Took Sense Of Self..'

Vivek Oberoi's love story with his wife, Priyanka Alva, is a tale as old as time that often leaves everyone dreaming of a love like theirs. From being convinced that he would remain a bachelor forever to falling for his now-wife on their first date, Vivek has undoubtedly come a long way. However, his former conviction to engage in only casual relationships stemmed from the profound heartbreak he experienced earlier. The Shootout At Lokhandwala actor was involved in quite a few high-profile relationships before tying the knot with the love of his life, Priyanka. Recently, the actor opened up about how heartbreak changed him and compelled him to take the drastic decision to stay single for the rest of his life.

Vivek Oberoi's wise advice to young men on avoiding misguided means of coping with heartbreak

During a tell-all interview with MensXP, Vivek Oberoi explored his experience with heartbreak, calling it a 'weird journey.' Based on this, Vivek shed some light on young men's misguided methods to overcome the grief of heartbreak. According to the actor, the common ways boys handle this emotional pain involve meeting friends to drink, letting out their frustrations by bashing their exes and feeling comforted when their buddies do the same.

Vivek added that some boys, like himself, might take it even further and swear off romantic relationships entirely. They might pledge to only engage in hookups or avoid getting involved with women at all. Vivek further noted:

"Others go in the opposite direction—they decide to date every girl who comes their way and vow never to commit seriously because it hurts too much."

However, the actor, who has experienced his fair share of heartache, stated that these approaches were misguided. Vivek pointed out that such behaviour often led to losing touch with one's authentic self. In his words:

"This girl left you, and you let her take your sense of self along with her. That's wrong. She rejected you, but you haven't rejected yourself. You need to work on yourself. Of course, it's important to express your feelings but this typical journey of lashing out, dating a bunch of girls…which I think Bollywood is also partially responsible for."

Vivek Oberoi advises young men to identify their own flaws and work on them

Vivek Oberoi urged young men to focus on identifying their own flaws rather than the pain they had been caused. The actor-businessman emphasised the importance of doing so as it would prevent them from repeating those mistakes in future relationships. However, Vivek also advised them to exercise caution in cases of abuse or betrayal. The actor vehemently stated that if someone felt that they had been 'used or abused,' it was vital they protect themselves. Vivek also sagely noted that one should never give too much of themselves to their partner unless absolutely certain that they were worth it.

Vivek Oberoi opens up about being stuck in the throes of heartbreak for 4-5 years

Further in the interview, Vivek Oberoi elaborated on his personal experience with heartbreak, revealing that it took him a good 4-5 years to overcome the emotional pain. The actor confessed that until he met his beloved Priyanka, he had entirely forgotten who he was as a person. Vivek can be quoted as saying:

"We often focus on the emotional reaction rather than the process of healing. My emotional reaction lasted for 4-5 years. It was difficult until I found Priyanka. I was stuck in a negative mindset, convinced I would stay single for the rest of my life. I forgot who I truly was—a guy who was devotedly in love. I changed myself and was punishing myself."

For the uninitiated, Vivek was involved in a high-profile relationship with Aishwarya Rai, after the actress broke things off with Salman Khan. This led to the Saathiya actor having a massive fallout with Salman. Eventually, Vivek and Aishwarya ended their relationship in 2003. He allegedly remained single and only engaged in casual relationships following their split until falling in love with Priyanka, with whom he tied the knot in 2010.
