Elizabeth Olsen's Return As 'Scarlet Witch' CONFIRMED, Here's All You Need To Know

‘Wanda Maximoff’, also known as the ‘Scarlet Witch’, has long been one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her journey from an experimental hostage to one of the strongest MCU characters, along with Elizabeth Olsen’s unforgettable performance, has made her a fan favourite. Ever since her apparent demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been eagerly waiting for her return. Now, that moment is finally here, though not in the way anyone expected.

Scarlet Witch is back in Marvel Zombies

Marvel Studios has officially released the first trailer for Marvel Zombies, confirming Elizabeth Olsen’s return to voice a horrifying new version of ‘Wanda Maximoff’. This time, she plays a zombified variant of ‘Wanda’ known as the ‘Dead Queen,’ who commands a gruesome undead army. The series spins off from What If...? and will feature darker, more graphic storytelling in the zombieverse of Marvel.

Fans will get to see a new side of ‘Wanda Maximoff’

In this animated series, ‘Wanda’ won’t be the hero we remember. Instead, she’s the villain who will be using her powers to lead an army of the undead across a ravaged multiverse. Dubbed the ‘Dead Queen’, this version of ‘Wanda’ is even more powerful and terrifying than before, with ‘Okoye’ acting as her deadly second-in-command. Fans can expect a whole lot of chaos.

Marvel Zombie is unlike any other MCU project

Unlike most MCU projects, Marvel Zombies carries a TV-MA rating, allowing for intense and mature content. The animation style brings the gruesome visuals to life while staying true to the tone of the original Marvel Zombies comic series by Robert Kirkman. This is not your typical Marvel film or series; this will be a more unhinged and unchained Marvel project.

‘Wanda Maximoff’s’ return may be related to the multiverse saga

Though this is an alternate version of ‘Wanda’, it hints at bigger things that are yet to come. As Marvel approaches Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, fans are expecting more variants, more chaos, and more unexpected returns. ‘Wanda’s’ reappearance as zombie or not proves she’s still a crucial part of the Multiverse Saga and can anytime make a return to the main timeline.

The real ‘Wanda Maximoff’ might return to the MCU’s main storyline

While this zombie version of ‘Wanda’ takes the spotlight for now, fans haven’t given up hope for the return of the original ‘Scarlet Witch’. With her son, ‘Billy’, already appearing in Agatha All Along and ‘Tommy’ expected to debut in Vision Quest, the groundwork for the ‘Maximoff’ family reunion is being laid. Kevin Feige’s past comments also suggest that ‘Wanda’s’ story isn’t over yet.

When and where to watch Marvel Zombies

Marvel Zombies will officially premiere on September 24, 2025, exclusively on Disney Plus. Featuring MCU voice talent and bold new storytelling, this series will offer a unique twist on familiar heroes and villains. Elizabeth Olsen’s chilling performance as the undead ‘Scarlet Witch’ promises to be one of the show’s standout moments.
