"At Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding, they wanted a song called ‘Ranjha’. The song is about an army officer dying and not coming back, and her yearing for him to come back. It’s a song about death and destruction. She wanted to walk out on that song, and validly so, because it’s the song that people loved the two of them for."

Vishal reveals he and his team changed the lyrics to a happier version of the song

But the lyrics of the song did not make any sense to them. Hence, Vishal and his team decided to change the lyrics of the song to a more event-appropriate one, and they changed the lyrics to positive and happier ones. Revealing that the fans of Bollywood culture took the wedding film as the happy ending of the couple in Shershaah, Vishal said:

"What didn’t make sense was the lyrics of the song. So what my team and I did was, we changed the lyrics of the song. We made them positive and happy, and made it about, ‘I’m coming to you’. So, fans of Bollywood culture globally, they took the wedding film as the real ending to the movie. Finally, they get their happy ending, they didn’t get it in the movie."

Vishal shares that they would get sued for altering a song if it happened in another country

In the same conversation, Vishal mentioned that the happier version of Ranjha used for Sidharth and Kiara's wedding film became the highest-played wedding song on Spotify in 2023. Moreover, he stated that if it had been in any other country, it would have been tough to remix a song of this magnitude. But because Karan Johar, who owns the rights to it, was present at Sidharth and Kiara's wedding, it wasn't an issue. He said:

"If somebody does this in the UK, they’d get sued."
