Dick was widely known to be one of the most powerful Vice Presidents of the US.

According to a statement released by Dick Cheney’s family on November 4, 2025, the 46th Vice President of the US died at the age of 84 on November 3, 2025. He was surrounded by his family, including his 61-year-old wife, Lynne, and their daughters, Liz and Mary. The cause of death, as mentioned in the statement, was due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. An excerpt from the family statement can be read as:

"For decades, Dick Cheney served our nation, including as White House Chief of Staff, Wyoming's Congressman, Secretary of Defense, and Vice President of the United States. His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him as he passed."

In 1988, he underwent a quadruple-bypass surgery after suffering a mild heart attack. According to a report by People, Dick suffered five heart attacks between 1988 to 2010. In 2010, he suffered his fifth cardiac arrest and received a heart transplant after two years. The donor was anonymous, but Dick Cheney and his family were grateful for the person’s gesture. A statement was released from Dick Cheney’s office at that time. The statement can be read as:

"Although the former Vice President and his family do not know the identity of the donor, they will be forever grateful for this lifesaving gift."

"Dick Cheney was a great and good man who taught his children and grandchildren to love our country, and to live lives of courage, honour, love, kindness, and fly fishing. We are grateful beyond measure for all Dick Cheney did for our country. And we are blessed beyond measure to have loved and been loved by this noble giant of a man."

Dick Cheney was born as Richard Bruce Cheney on January 30, 1941, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was raised in Casper, Wyoming. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Wyoming. His political career began in 1969 under President Nixon, where he held numerous administrative roles.
