What led to the strained bond between Rosie O'Donnell and her daughter, Chelsea? 

Rosie O'Donnell's relationship with her daughter, Chelsea, has been complicated for most of the latter's adult life. According to media reports, the relationship first hit a rough patch in 2015 when Chelsea, who was 17 years old then, had gone missing from their New York home. Rosie revealed that her daughter was suffering from mental health issues and needed medical care. The public revelation allegedly did not go down well with Chelsea. Later, she was found in New Jersey with an old man she met online. After a year, when Chelsea turned 18, she allegedly told Inside Edition that Rosie had kicked her out, and their relationship began deteriorating after Rosie's divorce in 2007.

Over the years, their differences have continued to grow. Chelsea even reconnected with her birth mother, Deanna Micoley (Neuens), after growing up and gradually moved to Wisconsin to live with her. Earlier this year, in January 2025, she filed to legally change her last name from O'Donnell to Neuens, reportedly after she discovered that Rosie did not include her in her USD 80 million will. But despite the emotional distance after Chelsea's sentence, the 64-year-old has expressed concern for her daughter during her ongoing addiction and legal battles.
