'They would not last!' This was media's verdict when Kajol and Ajay Devgn had hogged the limelight for pairing up in real life. The critics had labelled them as an 'unlikely pair' due to their contrasting personalities. While Ajay was known to be shy and an introvert, Kajol was a live wire who would burst into vivacious laughter at the drop of a hat.
A few believed that the relationship would not last long, let alone culminate in marriage. But, defying the media speculations, Ajay Devgn and Kajol got married after a four-year-long courtship and are still going strong.

The two actors, Kajol and Ajay Devgn, first met on the sets of the 1995 film, Hulchul, and it was the call of destiny. After the film's lead actress, Divya Bharti, had passed away, Kajol made the last-minute entry into the film. After which, she had met Ajay Devgn for the first time during the shooting of the film.
In an old interview, Kajol had stated that initially, she hadn't liked Ajay at all. The actress had stated that being a jolly person, she found it extremely hard to gel well with a hardcore introvert like Ajay Devgn. However, with time, the two became friends and had started dating after spending some time together. The couple had dated each other for four years but never told anyone about their relationship, that was the decision that had played a huge role in their relationship.

Kajol, who was always found reading a 'Mills and Boon' novel, had finally fallen head-over-heels in love with her Mr Right, Ajay Devgn. In an old interview with a media portal, she had explained their relationship by saying:
We never resorted to the usual 'I love you' routine. A proposal never happened. We grew with each other. Marriage was never discussed, but it was always imminent.
Once titled as the 'unlikely pair' of the film industry, Kajol and Ajay Devgn got married on February 24, 1999, in true Maharashtrian style. Ajay Devgn, often regarded as 'camera shy', had always wanted the marriage to be a private affair. The actor did not even hire professional photographers for the wedding, insisting that he would be the only one with the camera. Therefore, the photographs were totally up, close and personal. The newly wedded couple, Kajol and Ajay, had left for a two-month-long honeymoon to Europe soon after their wedding.

No matter how smooth their courtship was, their marriage saw a lot of ups and downs. Post their wedding, rumours were rife that Kajol did not get along well with her in-laws, especially Ajay's mother, Veena Devgan. But, the actress had come out strongly against the allegations in the media. Also, the couple had to face several media attacks. One of the popular magazines had published Ajay's alleged affair with a much younger actress.
In one of her old interviews with a news portal, Kajol had opened up about the reports that she was facing some irreconcilable issues with her in-laws. As a result of which, cracks have started appearing in her marital journey with her husband, Ajay Devgn. However, refuting all the allegations, the actress had said:
I don't believe in those rumours because I know the way this industry functions. You cannot continue a marriage without the basic trust. Frankly, I don't care for such talk.

It was in 2001 when Kajol was pregnant with her first child. Devgn family was all set to welcome their bundle of joy, but Kajol had suffered a miscarriage in the sixth month of her first pregnancy. Maintaining great dignity in his sorrow, her husband, Ajay, had informed the media about the same. Along with the painful statement, the doting husband had ended all speculations of him and Kajol having issues in their marital life by saying that 'they're happy together'. Ajay Devgn had retorted:
Both of us were thrilled when we learnt of the pregnancy. If not today, tomorrow we will look forward to starting a family. Kajol will be back on her feet before you know it. We're happy together and that's all that matters.
Two years after the miscarriage, the couple got a second chance to experience parenthood. It was on April 20, 2003, that Kajol had given birth to their gorgeous daughter, Nysa. Seven years later, on September 13, 2010, Kajol had given birth to a baby boy, and the couple had named him Yug.
Since then, Kajol has taken motherhood as her life's first priority. Over the years, she had turned down several offers from the industry just to stay at home with her kids. While for the doting dad, Ajay, his daughter, Nysa, is his weakness, he hates it if he has a day off and she is not around.
Once in an interview with a leading news portal, Kajol had opened up about the contrasting differences between her and her husband, Ajay Devgn's personality. While she called herself a 'nasty' person, the doting wifey had showered praises on her hubby and had stated that Ajay is a better person than her. She had explained:
I’m really nasty, critical and cutting. Ajay is a much better person than me. It’s not easy being the sensible one all the time, but he’s such a gentleman.
No wonder this couple has braved all the controversies and testing times and has managed to come out strong. When the same thing was asked from Ajay Devgn, the doting husband had summed it up the best. He had said, "In our differences, we complete and complement each other."

Both Ajay and Kajol had opened up about how they have such a beautiful relationship going when they were quizzed to reveal the secret behind their happy married life at the 'Hindustan Times Leadership Summit' held in December 2014. Answering this, Kajol had cheerfully surfaced some never-heard-before revelations about her and Ajay's married life. She had said:
We dated for almost four years before getting married and we are best friends. I think our relationship has worked only because I speak a lot and he quietly listens. So the secret to our happy married life is that Ajay doesn't say much.
Aren't they adorable? Indeed they are, and every single fan of this couple wishes them a lifetime of togetherness and happiness!
