Hollywood is mourning the loss of veteran actress, Diane Ladd, who passed away on November 3, 2025, at the age of 89. The three-time Oscar nominee was admired for her memorable performances in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Chinatown and Rambling Rose. According to her daughter, Laura, Diane died peacefully at her home in California after battling with an idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a rare lung disease she was diagnosed with in 2018. Initially, she only had six months to a year to live, but with the right care and treatment, she outlived the prognosis.
Diane Ladd first became a mother after welcoming a daughter with actor, Bruce Dern. The couple named her Diane Elizabeth Dern. Yet, the child died at just 18 months old in a drowning accident. The ultimate loss left a lasting scar in Diane's life and shaped her spiritual outlook, which was reflected in her later performances. Diane once spoke about how the tragedy altered her perspective as an actor.

Later, she became a proud mother to Laura Dern, one of Hollywood's most loved actresses. The latter, who is now 58, has already earned an Emmy and Oscar recognition for her versatile performances in Marriage Story, Big Little Lies, and Jurassic Park. In fact, the mother-daughter duo has collaborated on several projects, including Rambling Rose, for which they both received Academy Award nominations in 1992, marking a rare moment in film history. Recalling how she once stopped her daughter from pursuing acting, Diane once said:
"Don't be an actress. Be a doctor, be a lawyer. Nobody cares if your chin points when you cry if you're a doctor. But an actress? They care, care, care."

Beyond children, Diane Ladd's personal life was filled with love, loss, and reinvention. She was married three times. First, she tied the knot to Bruce Dern from 1960 to 1969, then to William Shea Jr. Lastly, she met the love of her life, writer and consultant, Robert Charles Hunter, with whom she shared her later years until his death. He passed away a couple of months ago, in August 2025, and they had no children together.

Rose Diane Ladd was one of the most admired American actresses with a career spanning over 70 years. She appeared in 200 projects, including films and TV shows, which earned her three Academy Award nominations for her roles in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, and Rambling Rose. She also received a BAFTA Award and three Primetime Emmy Nominations. Some of the most popular projects include Chinatown, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Ghosts of Mississippi, Primary Colours, and 28 Days, among others. Confirming her demise, Laura said:.

"She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist, and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created. We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now."
