The India Women's cricket team has etched its name in history by clinching the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 trophy. It happened under the guidance of their head coach, Amol Muzumdar. The Women In Blue defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 final, held on November 2, 2025, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Well, life has come to a full circle for Amol, whose guidance led to power-packed on-field performances by Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma. A new history has been etched in Indian cricketing history.
Well, speaking of Amol Muzumdar, he has toiled for years under the sun, has scored 11,67 first-class runs, and has not even had the opportunity to don the Indian cap. However, Amol created history, becoming the first player to do so despite never getting a chance to play for the Indian cricket team. His dad had been a cricketer, which was why he was attracted to the game. When Amol was around 8 or 9 years old, he got the opportunity to play cricket, and he played it well when he was 11 or 12.

Amol toiled hard under the sun in domestic cricket and amassed 11,167 first-class runs without even wearing the Indian cricket uniform. Sadly, Amol played at a time when India's middle order in cricket was packed with Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly. Mumbai had the longest tradition of creating cricketers such as Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Vinod Kambli. However, Amol could not cement his international standing, as he was born in a generation when batting reserves were stocked.

Amol was one known to be one of the best batsmen who played test cricket. Amol's Ranji Trophy team had produced a history of world-class batsmen, and when selectors looked at Mumbai's lineup, they had stars. There were Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli, and Sanjay Manjrekar, who had cemented their position. Amol's achievements seemed overshadowed by big names from Mumbai. Amol was the second-highest scorer in the Ranji Trophy and had also captained Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, in an interview with Cricbuzz, Amol shared how he had started off as an off spinner from a young age. He was never a leggie and had got bored with the forms and had also been a wicket keeper, leg spinner, but never bowled much in first-class cricket. Amol did not realise he loved cricket until he played the same. The right-handed batsman from the grounds of Mumbai was like born in the wrong era as he was that unlucky batsman who padded when Sachin and Vinod were there. Speaking on his love for cricket, Amol shared:

"It was a different atmosphere when we were growing up, there was a pool of cricketers. There was amazing talent around me. I am an extremely fortunate guy that there was that kind of talent around: not just Tendulkar or Kambli but there were several others who were filled with talent. You didn't realise that you have that potential because you are just a boy, you are too small to realise that you have some potential. You just try to do your best whenever possible and that has been my aim right throughout: to just do my best and everything else will follow."
Amol, like many others, made a double century in his Ranji debut and was known to be focused for a long time on the field. Amol had made it to the U-19 levels back in the early 90s but could never earn a Test Cap. Amol led Mumbai to a Ranji trophy win, beating Bengal in the final. He was associated with Mumbai cricket for a long time, left, and then went to Assam to play Ranji. He played for Andhra and in 2014 announced retirement from domestic cricket and became the highest scorer in Ranji cricket.

Amol retired from cricket in 2014, ending his career of 21 years. The man who carried Mumbai's batting stride on his shoulder then coached the Indian Women's Cricket Team to their maiden ODI World Cup win. The head coach called the triumph a 'watershed' moment and shared being speechless, proud, and said that the hard work and belief made all Indians proud. Amol has been guiding the team since 2023, and earlier in an interview shared that if he had not been a cricketer, he would be an interior designer. In his words:
"I would have become something in life because I have got some traits. Maybe an interior designer or something. I have never really given it a thought but thank god I became a cricketer, it was a blessing in disguise. I would have definitely become something though because I was good academically."
