He also mentioned considering relocating his family to India. For the unversed, Amol is the father of four children. He has been married to Charlotte Faircloth since 2013.

Before joining the BBC, Amol worked as an editor at The Independent from 2013 to 2016. He had joined The Independent in 2007 and was appointed as an editor in 2013 when he was 29 years old. However, when Amol was working as the editor of The Independent, he was also going through a tough phase in his personal life. Yes, you read it right. In 2024, Amol spoke candidly about his and his wife’s struggle with IVF on the Comfort Eating podcast. The BBC broadcaster shared that there was a tough phase in his life, when he and his wife, Charlotte, struggled with IVF to have kids. He called the medical treatment procedure 'really exhausting.' However, after years of struggle, the couple were blessed with four beautiful children. As of 2024, they were all under the age of 8. Amol added that, in fact, doctors also told them that it would not happen. He was quoted as saying:

"I don’t really talk about this very much publicly...my wife and I were going through hellish medical treatment to try and have more children. That was really exhausting. In fact, the whole time I was editor of The Independent, we were going through really tough stuff. And, obviously, we’ve ended up extraordinarily blessed. We’ve got four kids, and I realise, I really, really, do realise how lucky we all are. We were told it wouldn’t happen. There were years, and years, and years, and years, in which it was really tough and a struggle. There was a lot of that going on whilst I was at the BBC."

In 2025, Amol Rajan appeared on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast. During the conversation got candid about how IVF took an emotional toll on him. Amol highlighted that while he was succeeding professionally after joining the BBC, he struggled hard in his personal life. He stated that the whole process of IVF that he and his wife were going through was quite exhausting. He also shared some advice to couples who think about delaying pregnancy, as there is IVF. Amol was quoted as saying:

"The whole time I was editing a newspaper, running a business, and leading a team—but my heart was hurting because we were going through IVF. I worry about the idea that a lot of people think you can delay having kids because IVF is, like, this fallback option. IVF is a near-miracle technology, but it doesn’t work for everyone, and it involves a lot of heartache."

In a recent episode of the Rosebud podcast, Amol said Gyles Brandreth shared his concerns about his children growing up in England. Amol, who was born in Calcutta, India, mentioned that England is no longer making history. He highlighted that earlier, England was a major centre of cultural and historical change, but presently it is having some serious issues. Thus, he wants his children to visit India and decide where they want to stay. He was quoted as saying:

"I think we’ve got some big, big problems that need addressing, and one of the things is whether this is the best place for my four kids to grow up. I would say specifically that I’m not sure whether it’s still a place where history is being made. India is definitely somewhere where history is being made. It’s extraordinarily exciting and energetic in a way that Britain doesn’t always feel. I’d like my children to experience India and then make up their own mind. I want it to be their decision."
