In a momentous ceremony, he is all set to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2024. As Donald Trump takes the oath, all eyes are on him and his family. For the uninitiated, Trump also served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021.
Along with Donald Trump’s return to the White House, his wife, Melania Trump, has also been set to move back to the White House since day 1. While Donald is trending all over the internet, people are also keen to know every detail about his wife, Melania. Let us read on to learn more details about her.
Born as Melanija Knaves in Slovenia, she started to work as a model at the mere age of 16. She changed the spelling of her name to Melania Knauss and began working as a model in Paris and Milan. At the age of 26, Melania moved to Manhattan, where she continued working as a model.
It was Metropolitan Models co-owner, Paolo Zampolli, who introduced Melania to Donald Trump in 1998, who was then a real estate mogul. Donald came to the party with another woman but was bestowed by Melania. When he asked Melania for her phone number, she refused. After a week, Melania called Donald, and they went on a date.
Melania continued her modelling career, and Donald’s connections gave her new opportunities. There were many highs and lows in their relationship. In 2000, it was reported that the two broke up, but soon after a few months, Melania and Donald reunited.

Donald Trump’s political career was taking off during his relationship with Melania. In 2004, as they were leaving for the Met Gala, Donald proposed to her, as he felt she had a great influence on his success. On January 22, 2005, the duo got married in a grand ceremony at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach, Florida. The couple welcomed their first child, Barron, in March 2006.
After the birth of Barron, Melania stayed out of the public eye, raising their son. Melania was the one who convinced her husband, Donald, to campaign for President in the 2016 presidential election. Though many people doubted his chances of winning, Melania was sure that he would win.
Throughout the campaign, Melania supported Donald but remained at home, away from the public eye. Despite not being seen in public, Melania closely analysed the campaign from home and watched her husband interact with his opponents. After each rally, she would call him and give her input to him.
After Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016, Melania became the First Lady of the United States. However, she chose to stay back in New York for her son Barron’s education and only moved to the White House in 2017. Melania is the second foreign-born woman to hold the title of First Lady after Louisa Adams.
Melania never gave political speeches during Donald’s Presidential campaign. In 2016, Melania Trump gave a speech at the Republic National Convention, which turned into a big controversy as it was stated to be plagiarised.
It so happened that after she gave the speech, a paragraph from the same was stated to be plagiarised from Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. It was the only major speech she gave during the campaign, and it turned out to be a scandal.
After becoming the First Lady, Melania announced her initiative, Be Best awareness campaign to support the welfare of children. The initiative was to raise awareness against cyberbullying and prevent opioid abuse. Though it received a lot of criticism, she continued her campaign.
After Donald Trump’s swiping win in the 2024 presidential election, Melania became the second First Lady to hold the position twice non-consecutively. In a television interview on Fox and Friends, when Melania was asked whether she would spend the majority of her time in the White House, she responded:
“I will be in the White House. And, you know, when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach. But my first priority is, you know, to be a mom, to be a first lady, to be a wife. And once we are in on Jan. 20, you serve the country.”
Despite all the highs and lows, Melania Trump maintained her stature as a dutiful wife and always supported her husband, Donald Trump, in his political career.
