Nawat used the derogatory term while accusing her of not posting enough promotional content about the host country, Thailand, on social media. Following that, in a moment that drew global attention, Fatima Bosch stood her ground and walked out in protest. Over a dozen other contestants, including the reigning Miss Universe, also walked out, in a powerful display of solidarity that garnered widespread admiration and support. While leaving the venue, Fatima declared:

"What your director just did was not respectful...The world needs to see this because we are empowered women, and no one can silence us".
