Meet George Strait's Wife, Norma, His High-School Sweetheart Who's Been His Strength For 50+ Years

Country music legend, George Strait is making headlines once again. This time, it is for his epic comeback to Death Valley after more than two decades. The 'King of Country Music' is set to perform a one-night-only concert at Clemson University's Memorial Stadium on May 2, 2026.

Unlike any regular concert, it will mark a special return of the legendary to the same stage where he last performed in 1999. According to People, the tickets for the show will go on sale on October 13, 2025. Amid this exciting news, let's learn more about George Strait's quiet strength and his wife of over 50 years, Norma.

Who is George Strait's wife, Norma?

While George Strait's fans are excited to witness the magical voice and memorable songs of the Country singer, one person has been his pillar of strength through everything good and bad. It is none other than his wife, Norma Strait. The couple's love story is one of the most admired romances in country music. According to the same outlet, George and Norma grew up in the small town of Pearsall, Texas, and attended high school together.

After dating briefly and taking a short break from their relationship, George realised that he was in love with her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. The couple soon eloped in Mexico on December 4, 1971. Later, George enlisted in the U.S Army and went on duty in Hawaii. After some time, they later held a small church ceremony back home. After George rose to fame in his music career, Norma stayed low-key yet supported him from the sidelines.

George Strait's family life with Norma Strait 

After more than 50 years of togetherness, George and Norma Strait's relationship continues to inspire young couples. During one of his 2012 interviews, the country singer shared that both he and his wife feel blessed to have found each other and had the opportunity to share the experiences of their lives. In his words, "We love each other and we still like each other. A lot." Over the years, Norma has largely stayed out of the limelight, often standing beside her husband at major events, including when he received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 CMA Awards. Crediting his wife in his acceptance speech, George said: 

"Especially Norma, who's supported me for just shy of 53 years in December."

However, everything was not rosy about George Strait and Norma's marriage as they dealt with fame, joy, and heartbreak. They welcomed two children, a daughter, Jenifer Lynn Strait, in 1972, and a son, George "Bubba" Strait Jr., in 1981. However, a tragedy struck the family in 1986 when 13-year-old Jenifer was killed in a car accident. The couple has honoured their daughter's memory by establishing the Jenifer Strait Memorial Foundation to support charitable causes for children. Bubba pursued a career in songwriting and lives with his wife, Tamara, and two kids close to his parents. Opening about his daughter's memory, George once said:

"We were blessed to have been able to spend 13 years with our beautiful daughter Jenifer,"
