The tragic accident occurred at Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport. Instead of presenting India's defence and technological capabilities to the world, the aircraft nosedived into the ground  claiming the life of a brave Indian Air Force pilot named Wing Commander, Namansh Syal. As tributes from Military officials and politicians are pouring in for the young braveheart, here's everything you must know about him.

Who was Namansh Syal? 

His colleagues now remember Wing Commander, Namansh Syal as a calm and skilled Indian Air Force Pilot from the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. According to IAF officials, Namansh Syal was among the few selected pilots who were given the responsibility to represent India's Tejas programme at global air shows. Since the role required technical mastery and dedication, Namansh Syal was especially selected based on his talent and proficiency.

According to initial reports, Namansh Syal was married, and his wife is also a pilot. However, amid the grief, there are no additional details about his family in the public. When the news about Namansh Syal's demise was confirmed, Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, shared a heartfelt tribute for Namansh. He mentioned that the state had lost "a brave, dutiful and courageous son" and noted that Namansh's commitment to the nation would always be remembered with "pride and respect."

Defence establishments from around the world have extended their condolences on the passing of Namansh Syal. The manufacturer of the Tejas aircraft, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), states that it was "deeply saddened" by the fatal crash. They described Namansh as a pilot who served the country with dedication and honour. They shared an official statement on their social media handle. HAL expressed heartfelt condolences to his family and expressed their heartfelt support for the ongoing investigation. The Indian Embassy in the UAE also released a message mourning the loss.

How did India's Tejas aircraft crash at the Dubai Air Show?

Tejas's Crash occurred approximately at 2:08 pm (local time) when the aircraft was performing an aerial manoeuvre following its scheduled flying display. According to eyewitnesses, the jet pulled into a loop, flipped into an inverted position and began to lose altitude. The normal manoeuvre was supposed to be followed by a climb to complete it. However, this time the aircraft was unable to regain altitude, and it crashed into the ground within seconds. The footage reviewed by aviation analysts suggests that the manoeuvre required precise speed and height calculations. However, one expert told Reuters that he believed the aircraft did not have enough altitude to recover from the inversion.

According to the initial assessment, different analysts identified several possible causes behind the Tejas aircraft crash at the Dubai Air Show. However, the IAF has not confirmed any official cause. It includes a potential misjudgment during the high-speed manoeuvre, a technical or mechanical issue like engine failure, or a failure to recover from the negative G-forces. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry into the case and stated that the exact cause of the crash has been determined only after conducting a detailed technical and flight-data investigation. According to Al Jazeera, this incident is the first fatal crash involving the Tejas programme. Consequently, it is more crucial for India's aviation and defence community.
