Lily Allen has set the internet ablaze with the release of her latest album, West End Girl, on October 24, 2025. It has immediately led fans to believe that the lyrics of her songs reflect the emotional fallout of her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour. Her 14 new tracks in the album are described as 'semi-autobiographical', where Lily has addressed her ex-husband's alleged infidelity, leaving fans speculating about the mystery woman she repeatedly addresses as 'Madeline.'
After the release of Lily Allen's new album, fans immediately compared it to Beyoncé's Lemonade, and 'Madeline' seemed like Lily's version of Becky with the Good Hair. Especially in her song, Tennis, Lily uses the sport as a metaphor to highlight her husband's infidelity. She mentioned finding some texts on his phone, with a haunting refrain that read, "You won't play with me, and who the f** Is Madeline?"* In the next song, the narrative continues where Lily added some perspective from the other woman and claimed that their relationship was purely physical and insisted she believed Lily had consented to their "arrangement."

In both the tracks, Madeline and Dallas Major, Lily describes a painful betrayal within what she describes as an 'open' marriage with boundaries. She highlighted that her partner allegedly broke the boundaries. Further, she wrote, "It had to be with strangers, but you're not a stranger, Madeline." These words have led fans to believe that she was referring to her husband's reported three-year affair with a younger costume designer, one of several alleged affairs that surfaced before their split in December 2024.

In an interview with British Vogue, published on October 17, 2025, Allen confirmed that her personal experiences inspired parts of the album. However, she did not directly name David Harbour. The singer explained that she wrote the album to process the events that had occurred in her life. Speaking to Perfect Magazine about the same, she said:
"There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that's not to say that it's all gospel. It is inspired by what went on in the relationship. Two people who were once together are not together. And that's really sad. It's hard. It's hard for me not to have my own person, you know?"

Lily Allen and David Harbour's love story began like a modern fairytale. They met on the celebrity dating app Raya in 2019 and quickly fell in love. David once told British GQ that he admired Lily's honesty, recalling how he shared deeply personal truths with her early on and was surprised by her acceptance. They tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2020 officiated by an Elvis impersonator. Lily and Allen celebrated the occasion with their daughters over In-N-Out burgers. But by late 2024, their relationship had hit a rough patch after reports of the actor's affairs and Allen's emotional struggles surfaced online. Later, the singer filed for a divorce and sought treatment for "emotional turmoil."
