AR Rahman recently made headlines when the news of his split from his wife of 19 years, Saira Banu, was publicised. However, an even bigger bombshell dropped when his bassist, Mohini Dey, announced her divorce from her husband and saxophonist, Mark Hartsuch. Eagle-eyed netizens were quick to notice that the timing of the announcement seemed off, as it came mere hours after the Oscar-winning music composer and singer shared his own news.
While Mohini Dey is currently most recognized for being AR Rahman's bassist, she has had quite a diverse career in the music scene. Along with playing the bass guitar masterfully, Mohini is a vocalist, producer, and music composer. Not only that, her LinkedIn bio states that she is also a fashion designer and an entrepreneur.

Mohini's illustrious and lengthy musical journey is not a surprise, as she joined the scene when she was only nine years old. The bassist, who is 28 years old now, was born on July 20, 1996.
Mohini is part of Coke Studio India and Gaan Baangla's Wind of Change . The talented musician has had the opportunity to work with several industry greats and create a fusion of sounds over the years. Her roster includes names like Zakir Hussain, Shivamani, Willow Smith, Steve Vai, Marco Minnemann, and Jordan Rudes, among others.
Mohini Dey released her self-titled debut album in August 2023. It is a masterful fusion of RnB, funk, rock, and jazz albums, along with Indian Carnatic rhythms and konnakol vocals. Mohini's website features a snippet of her thoughts about her album and can be read as:

The news rocked fans, but not as much as his inclusion of a hashtag in the post did. Even more shocking was Mohini Dey's announcement of her split , which came a few hours later. In a lengthy Instagram post that requested fans not to pass judgments, Mohini wrote:
"While we remain great friends, we both have decided that we want different things in life and separation through mutual agreement was the best way to proceed. We will still be working on several projects together, including MaMoGi and Mohini Dey groups. We have always prided ourselves on working well together and that will not be stopping any time soon."
