Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds' journey: from high-school sweethearts to soulmates

Mookie Betts and Brianna Hammonds' love story began long before fame and money came into the picture. The two middle schools, when they first met in their Tennessee school. Brianna was in the seventh grade, and Mookie studied in the eighth. It was actually Brianna's friend who first had a crush on Betty. Recalling those days, Hammonds once told Ebony: 

“One of my best friends who passed away thought [Mookie] was cute, and I said, 'Girl, go talk to him!’ She was too scared to talk to him, so I told him, 'My girlfriend likes you. Will you talk to her?'…And he kept saying no."

As it turned out, Mookie was the least bit interested in the friend, as he secretly had a soft spot for Hammonds and thought she was cute. After months of casually hanging out and a few mixed signals, Betty asked her out, not once, but twice. Recalling their time from the MySpace days, the star baseball player revealed:

“When I finally asked her out, she said she didn’t hear me, but she heard me…So the next day, I end up asking her again. I’m thinking, you get one shot. I only have but so much courage, I’m pacing in my room and thinking, I ain’t asking again. I don’t know what [made] me ask again. She said yes, and my MySpace status changed.”

Later that year, on December 1, 2021, they tied the knot at the stunning Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Their daughter, Kynlee, served as the flower girl, and the grand wedding even featured performances by Lil Wayne and Nelly.

“Never knew what unconditional love meant or how it felt until I met this little princess. Nov 6th 2018 is a day I’ll never forget.”
