Who Is Patricia Ann Quillin?

Patricia Ann Quillin is a philanthropist, activist and film producer who has spent more than two decades supporting significant social causes. She has been an active supporter of education equity, criminal justice reform, women's empowerment, and environmental causes. According to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, she is the chairperson for the Meadow Fund, which spends millions on grassroots and national level nonprofits.

As per ABC news, they gave around USD 120 million in 2020 to Spelman College, Morehouse College and the United Negro College Fund in support to Black students. Notably, it is one of the largest individual donations ever made to HBCUs. In the same year, they contributed around USD 30 million to GAVI for the global COVAX COVID-19 vaccine initiative.

Reed Hastings and Patty Quillin tied the knot in 1991 and not much is known about their bond before it. They have lived a remarkably quiet personal life after their marriage despite Reed Hastings’ high-profile career. They live together in Santa Cruz, California and share two children. Reed Hastings has repeatedly credited Patty and their early marriage counseling for teaching him about emotional honesty. Sharing its benefits, he once told CNBC: 

“It changed my life. I learned the power of complete openness.”

On the other hand, Patricia Ann Quillin has described their partnership as a shared mission rooted in family and philanthropy rather than public attention. While Reed Hastings continues to revolutionize the global entertainment industry through Netflix, Patricia has helped to bring his commitment of giving back to life. The total amount of their charitable efforts have exceeded USD 2 billion in lifetime pledges including Reed's USD 1.1 billion donation of Netflix stock in early 2024 to community initiatives. 

Earlier in 2025, Reed Hastings donated USD 50 million to Bowdoin College to launch the Hastings Initiative for AI and Humanity, honoring his alma mater and the values he advocates with his wife. It added a new chapter to their philanthropy legacy.
