Meet Novak Djokovic's Wife, Jelena Djokovic, Businesswoman, Humanitarian, His Childhood Sweetheart

Tennis star, Novak Djokovic is the man of the hour as he is all set to face Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2026. The tennis icon, Novak, is the only man to achieve a triple career Grand Slam. Beyond his record 24 Grand Slams, Novak is the only player to complete a Career Golden Masters. Amid his amazing career is the woman who believed in him right from the beginning. It is none other than his wife, Jelena.

Novak Djokovic and Jelena were high school sweethearts

Novak once revealed that Jelena is the only woman he ever loved. The two had been together since high school in Serbia. They started dating while playing tennis at school and dated for eight long years, having each other throughout their highs and lows. Novak and Jelena got engaged in 2013 and married in 2014.

After high school, Jelena attended Bocconi University in Milan, where she studied luxury brand management. While the two of them were in a long-distance relationship, their love and trust in each other helped them sail through. In an interview with Hello, Jelena revealed:

“Us getting together was like science fiction, almost. I was a student barely getting by, and he was a very young tennis player who also had no money to spare on expensive trips. Airplanes were, at the time, something utterly out of our reach. We contrived and devised these plans on how to meet, how to make our relationship work."

Novak Djokovic married Jelena right after his second Wimbledon championship

After dating for more than eight years, Novak decided to propose to Jelena. The tennis player had arranged for a hot-air balloon with a banner that read, 'Will you marry me?' Initially, Jelena was confused by the setup. But when he dropped to one knee to propose to her, it was magical.

The couple got married in less than a week after Novak’s second Wimbledon championship in 2014. The ceremony took place in Sveti Stefan, a small coastal town in Montenegro, with friends and family. They welcomed their first child, Stefan Djokovic, on October 22, 2014. Three years later, the couple welcomed their second child, Tara Djokovic, in September 2017. 

The couple has been married for a decade and is still madly in love with each other. In July 2024, when Novak and Jelena completed 10 years of marriage, the tennis star took to his IG handle and penned:

“Ten years of joy. Ten years of dreams. Ten years as one. Ten years of fun, Ten years of you. The best part of me. I love you forever."

Soon after her graduation, Jelena moved in with Novak and got a job at an oil company. However, Jelena’s long working hours left the couple with no time for each other. As a result, she quit the company to be with her man. In 2007, Novak created an organisation, the Novak Djokovic Foundation, to help children in Serbia. Jelena is the co-founder of the organisation and the global CEO too. The organisation aims to provide access to early childhood education for underprivileged children.

Jelena is Novak Djokovic's biggest supporter

Novak holds 24 Grand Slam singles titles. He achieved his longtime goal at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August 2024. Jelena has watched Novak win at Wimbledon, the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open, among many other major tournaments. Despite the highs and lows, she never stopped believing in her husband’s capabilities. Seeing him play live often makes Jelena emotional, but she hardly shows it because she doesn’t want to distract him.

Once, in an interview, Novak revealed that Jelena is his only constant, who has seen him at his worst. The tennis star also revealed that he can play because she takes care of their home. In his words:

“She’s the only relationship I’ve had in my life and she’s my rock. We’ve grown together. I always want her feedback, I still play tennis because she takes care of home. She’s the best partner in every way”
