Meet Varijashree Venugopal, Raghu Dixit's Soon-To-Be Wife,16 Year Younger Grammy-Nominated Flutist

Musician and singer, Raghu Dixit is leading all the headlines after the news of his wedding surfaced. The 50-year-old musician is getting married for the second time to a 16-year-younger, Varijashree Venugopal. Raghu was previously married to choreographer and dancer Mayuri Upadhyay since 2005, and the couple called it quits in 2019. Raghu found love again and is all set to marry Varijashree.

Varijashree Venugopal could identify 40 ragas when she was 18 months old

Born to acclaimed musicians HS Venugopal and TV Rama, Varijashree Venugopal was a blessed child, who could identify almost 40 ragas when she was just 18 months old. At the time when she could barely make sentences, Varijashree’s parents realised that she was trying to say the names of some words at a concert. They later identified her words as some of the Carnatic ragas and were overwhelmed that their daughter could identify almost 40 to 50 ragas.

She was initially trained by her father, Flute Vidwan H.S. Venugopal, and mother, Rama Venugopal along with Vidushi H. Geetha, Vidushi Vasantha Srinivasan, Vidwan D.S. Srivatsa, and later under Gaanakalanidhi Vidwan Salem P. Sundaresan. By the age of four, Varijashree started performing Carnatic concerts. Speaking to Elle India about her training, she shared:

“I used to go with my dad to buy groceries, so he would carry me and sing different kinds of compositions and teach me. And at that age, our brains are so free and full of space and ready to receive any and all information. So, by the time I was four, my parents had already trained me in a few of the most important fundamentals and compositions of Carnatic music.”

Varijashree Venugopal received a Grammy nomination

Apart from being a singer, Varijashree is also a flautist, composer, songwriter, and music educator. She has collaborated with notable musical personalities in the world, such as Bobby McFerrin, Jacob Collier, Michael League (Snarky Puppy), Victor Wooten, Bèla Fleck, Hamilton de Holanda, Eddie Gomez, and more.

Varijashree is part of the Bangalore band Chakrafonics, which also features musicians such as Praveen D Rao, Ajay Warrier and Pramath Kiran. Varijashree has also composed music for Kannada soaps and many Kannada and Telugu films. In 2024, Varijashree received her first Grammy Nomination in the Best Global Music Performance category.

As per the latest news doing the rounds, Varijashree is all set to marry singer, Raghu Dixit. However, their 16-year age gap has raised many eyebrows. Varijashree, born in 1991, is currently 34 years old, while Raghu was born in 1974, which means he is currently 50 years old. However, age is just a number for the couple, who are head-over-heels in love with each other.

Raghu and Varijashree are all set to tie the knot in the month of October 2025 in a close-knit ceremony. The singer has not yet revealed the exact date and time, but spoke about his feelings in an interview with The Times of India and said:

“I honestly did not see this coming. I had prepared myself to be single and alone for the rest of my life, but life had other plans. What began as a strong friendship naturally evolved into love and companionship. We share similar interests and connect deeply. With the blessings of Varijashree’s parents, we are excited to begin this new chapter of our lives together.”
