Renee got together with Rebecca some time after the death of her ex-husband, a comedian named Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who passed away in May 2023. They shared a son, now 6, whom Rebecca loves as her own child. The little one is the youngest of Renee's three kids.

Rebecca and Renee were previously residents of Kansas City, Missouri, where they lived in the Waldo neighbourhood for about two years. Rebecca Good was filmed repeatedly blaming herself in the immediate aftermath of the fatal shooting of her wife, Renee Nicole Good. Moments after the shooting, a distraught Rebecca was captured on a bystander video kneeling in the snow with blood on her face, sobbing and saying, "It's my fault." Overcome by grief, Rebecca stated, "I made her come down here." Witnesses and reports indicated that Rebecca had asked Renee to join her in observing the ICE operation underway in their residential neighbourhood. Adding to her guilt, the incident of Jonathan Ross killing Renee unfolded in front of Rebecca's eyes. She then cried out for help, stating:

"That's my wife, I don't know what to do!...I have a six-year-old at school... we're new here we don't have anyone...We need a doctor."

On January 7, 2026, Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, identified as Jonathan Ross, during a federal operation in south Minneapolis. The tragic incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. ET at the intersection of East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, in a snowy residential area. Bystander videos show three ICE agents surrounding Renee's vehicle and ordering her to exit. As she reversed and then attempted to drive away, turning her vehicle to the right, an agent standing near the front-left of the car fired three shots in rapid succession through the windshield.

Renee was struck in the head, and her car crashed into a light pole several feet away. After being shot, Renee was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The shooting has sparked national controversy and conflicting accounts from federal and local officials. Witnesses who filmed the event shared the video with the police official and the media. The footage showed the ICE agents as well as Renee and her inconsolable partner. Videos of Renee's car also surfaced, showing the back seat filled with kids' toys, likely for her children.
