Meet Sarvam Maya Actress Preity Mukhundhan, Graduate From NIT Trichy, Gained Fame With 'Aasa Kooda'

The film features Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese, Preity Mukhundhan, Riya Shibu, and Janardhanan in key roles. Preity Mukhundhan is a graduate from NIT Trichy

Preity Mukhundhan is more than a beautiful face, as the budding actress has done B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Trichy. Preity Mukhundhan was born in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, to doctor parents, showed an early inclination towards performing arts. While pursuing her degree, Preity also entered the modelling industry in 2018. Despite her demanding career, Preity balanced her modelling and studies.

Preity Mukhundhan’s breakthrough as a dancer with the viral song, Asa Kuda

Though Preity is a tremendous actress, she first gained recognition as a dancer with her appearance in Teejay Arunasalam’s 2022 music video, Muttu Mu2. The song went viral with 4.2 million views on YouTube. She then gained significant popularity through Sai Abhyankkar’s music video, "Asa Kuda."

She also danced for Badshah’s Hindi song, Morni. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Preity revealed that dancing was always a part of her identity and said:

“I’m from Trichy, and dance has always been a huge part of my identity. I was always drawn to performing arts while growing up. Before the song, people hardly knew me. But the song, Aasa Kooda became a sensation and gave me a great boost in terms of visibility. It couldn’t have come at a better time for me to find a foothold in the industry,”

Preity Mukhundhan’s acting debut and cross-industry expansion

Preity Mukhundhan made her acting debut in the Telugu horror-comedy Om Bheem Bush. After her debut film, her next venture was a Tamil film, Star, featuring Kavin. Her career took a leap when she starred in the devotional epic Kannappa, which also featured guest appearances by Mohanlal, Prabhas and Akshay Kumar. Preity made her Malayalam debut with the 2025 film, Maine Pyar Kiya, starring opposite Hridhu Haroon.

Her latest appearance in Sarvam Maya, in which she played the role of ‘Saadhya’, received strong applause from the audience. Preity has expanded her presence in South Indian cinema and has faced multiple challenges in preparing for her roles. Speaking to Filmfare, she spoke about broadening her creative horizons and said:

“For Kannappa I had to learn horse riding, sword fighting etc. Before getting into films, I had several acting workshops and dance practice sessions. But working on a film of such a massive scale was very liberating. The character challenged me as an actor and pushed my creative limits.”

Preity Mukhundhan never thought she would become an actress

In an interview with TOI, Preity stated that her parents are doctors and have no connection to the entertainment industry. While completing her studies, Preity ventured into modelling because of her love for the craft. But her transition from modelling to acting wasn’t natural for her. When Preity started modelling, she never thought she would be an actress. However, modelling gave her a platform to showcase her personality. Speaking about the same, Preity revealed:

“Modelling experience further fostered me, and the film industry made my experience more interesting. I just started to understand life better and navigate through various challenges.”
