Meet Scott Swift, Taylor Swift's Dad, 73, Stock Broker, Pals With Her BF, Travis And Bypass Survivor

Taylor Swift is a lucky girl because she has her biggest cheerleader in her father, Scott Swift, who never fails to adore and express pride at watching his daughter perform from the VIP section at her stadium shows. Whether he's waving to Swifties, cracking jokes mid-tour, or helping her deal with the whirlwind of fame. Recently, fans were worried when Scott Swift underwent an unexpected quintuple bypass surgery. But, in her podcast debut on New Heights, Taylor shared some rare insight about her dad and his health. 

Who is Taylor Swift's father, Scott Swift?

Behind-the-scenes, Scott is a stockbroker who founded the Swift Group, a financial advisory unit within Merrill Lynch. Later, he transitioned into the top adviser and First Vice President. Scott was born in Pennsylvania in 1952 and grew up in a family of financial professionals. His father, Archie Jr. and grandfather, Archie Sr., Scott entered into the financial business, and he followed in their footsteps to become a stockbroker. After graduating from the University of Delaware, he built a career managing millions for high-profile clients.

Scott Swift tied the knot with Andrea Swift, a mutual fund marketing executive, in 1988. They welcomed Taylor the next year, in 1989 and later another son. According to a report by Radar Online, Scott and Andrea privately separated sometime in 2010 or 2011. The speculation was fueled after they got spotted without their wedding bands, and Andrea's decision to travel with her daughter, Taylor Swift, on music tours was said to be a major reason behind it. However, Yahoo alleged that the duo continue to be together.

Taylor has often spoken about the strong bond she shares with her dad, who she says inspired her work ethic and drive from a young age. On tour, he often plays the role of both a friendly prankster and a proud father that Taylor admires on multiple occasions. More recently, he's formed a friendship with Taylor's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, as the singer shared, and the two often hang out and share an easy rapport. Sharing more details about her dad, Taylor wrote on her blog:

"My dad is along for this trip, hanging out and talking to every person he comes in contact with. He's a social butterfly and loves being on tour. He loves it so much, he thinks it's absolutely hilarious to mess with me and try to embarrass me as much as possible."

Taylor Swift gives a rare update on Scott Swift's health

The Summer of 2025 brought a major health challenge for Scott Swift, who had always focused on his health and happy-go-lucky behaviour. However, Taylor confirmed that he had to undergo multiple bypass surgeries after doctors discovered five heart blockages during a routine stress test, but he is doing well. She recalled that within 24 hours, he was in the operating room, but by the time he woke up, he was cracking jokes about being from a "very competitive family." Taylor, her mom and brother moved in with him to help during his recovery, swapping tour duties for building his shower chair and walker. Recalling how her dad was in great spirits when he woke up, Taylor said:

"He came out of surgery (and) tried to give guitar picks to all the nurses and doctors. But he wasn't wearing pants, didn't have pockets. (He was wearing a) hospital gown."

Whether or not he sat in front at Taylor Swift's shows, Scott Swift always proved that he never failed to support his daughter in achieving her dreams and cheering the loudest at her success.
