Savannah Guthrie's family has come into the spotlight owing to an intense search after her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing from her Tucson-area home. When Nancy did not go to her scheduled church service, her friend alerted her relatives. In turn, the authorities began their investigation on February 1, 2026, drawing national attention. Amid this, the the majority of the focus has now turto Savannah's sister and brother-in-law, who were among the last people known to have seen Nancy before she vanished.

Who are Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni?

Annie Guthrie, 56, is Savannah's older sister and a prominent writer. She is known for her poetry collection, The Good Dark. Annie has often spoken about her reflective personality and deep connection to literature. She had described her upbringing in some of her older interviews in a book-centered household, where journaling and reading were daily activities encouraged by their mother. She allegedly has one child. 

On the other hand, Tommaso Cioni is a longtime Tucson resident originally from Italy. According to his public profiles, he is reportedly an educator who has taught science and biology in local schools for several years. According to some biographical notes and posts shared by netizens, Tommaso has also been associated with creative pursuits, including poetry, music, and wildlife study. The duo tied the knot in 2006 and have mostly stayed out of the public eye. But things changed due to media coverage surrounding Savannah Guthrie.

Why did suspicion arise about Annie and Tommaso, and what have the police said?

Speculation about Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni surfaced after journalist Ashleigh Banfield cited an unnamed law enforcement source on her program. The source alleged that Tommaso Cioni "may be" considered a person of interest because he was among the last to see Nancy alive. Ashleigh emphasised that family members are often investigated during the initial stage of a case. But it does not mean they are guilty in the case.

Meanwhile, the investigators have not publicly named any suspects. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has stated only that they are following all leads and examining evidence found at the home. It includes signs that suggest Nancy did not leave voluntarily. However, the law enforcement has clarified that no one has been formally accused in the case, and they are treating Nancy's disappearance as an active investigation with multiple possibilities under review.

What happened on the night when Nancy Guthrie went missing? 

According to investigators in Nancy's disappearance case, she was last seen on the evening of January 31, 2026, after having dinner with her elder daughter, Annie, and Tommaso. They reportedly drove her back to her residence in Catalina Foothills around 9:30 p.m. But she did not attend church the following morning, raising alarm among her other family members, who checked her home and contacted authorities. Police believe the condition of residence indicates Nancy did not do so voluntarily. On the other hand, her personal belongings, including her phone, wallet, and car, were still inside. 

As of now, Savannah Guthrie has stepped away from her professional duties and has sought payers and assistance amid her mother's disappearance.
