Geetu Mohandas is married to an acclaimed cinematographer, Rajeev Ravi. The couple married in 2009 and later had a daughter, whom they named Aradhana. Geetu and Rajeev’s wedding in Kochi was attended by the who’s who of the entertainment world and was a star-studded event.

Rajeev Ravi is a popular cinematographer. After graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, Rajeev began his career in 1998, assisting on the Malayalam film, Pranayavarnangal. He made his debut as a cinematographer in 2001 with Madhur Bhandarkar’s film, Chandni Bar.

He later collaborated with Anurag Kashyap and served as cinematographer on No Smoking, Dev D, Gulaal, That Girl in Yellow Boots, Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1, Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2, Bombay Talkies, Udta Punjab, and many others. Rajeev won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography in 2010 for Dev D and in 2013 for Liar’s Dice.

Rajeev Ravi is a directorial genius

In 2013, Rajeev Ravi made his directorial debut with the romantic drama Annayum Rasoolum. He has also directed films such as Njan Steve Lopez, Kammatti Paadam, Kuttavum Shikshayum, and Thuramukham. Every film directed by Rajeev featured a unique storyline and received strong applause.

In an interview with The Federal Voice of the States, Rajeev was asked why he took so long to direct his first film. Revealing the reason behind it, Rajeev stated:

“I did but it was a little difficult those days to get dates from an actor. You had to carry a script and I am not a scriptwriter. Before (2007), I pitched a film to Prithviraj (Sukumaran) but somehow things didn’t work out even when we wanted them to. Seven years later, Fahadh (Faasil) did the same film which became Annayum Rasoolam. It was he, in fact, who pushed me into making the film.”

Beyond being a doting wife, Geetu Mohandas is an accomplished filmmaker. And Rajeev admires his wife’s intelligent filmmaking and dedication. He has often praised Geetu for her ability to build characters. The couple collaborated on Liar's Dice. Their strong creative bond while working together helped them bag the National Award. Geetu had stated that Rajeev Ravi's support was immense during Liar's Dice and that he helped bring her vision to life.

Geetu Mohandas’ journey from an actress to a filmmaker

Geetu Mohandas made her acting debut in 1986, opposite Mohanlal, at age 5. For her performance, Geetu won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. She then appeared in films such as Sayam Sandhya, Veendum, Rareeram, and the top-grosser, En Bommukutty Ammavukku. 

Geetu Mohandas made her acting debut in the 2000 film, Life Is Beautiful. Her debut film was followed by Thenkasipattanam, Kannaki, Sesham Valkannadi, Rappakal, Akasha Gopuram, Nammal Thammil, and others. After her last film, Nammal Thammil, in 2009, Geetu stepped into direction.

In 2009, she directed her first Malayalam short film, Kelkkunnundo, which received a National Award and was also included in the Kerala state syllabus for 12th grade. She then went on to direct another National Award-winning film, Liar’s Dice, in 2013. The film also marked India’s official entry to the 87th Academy Awards in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. In 2019, she directed her second feature film, Moothon, which also got global recognition.
