For the unversed, Supertramp was a British rock band, founded by Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies in London in 1970. However, Rick’s death at the age of 81 has left his fans and loved ones heartbroken. The lead singer of Supertramp passed away on September 6, 2025, after battling cancer for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Davies. Rick rose to prominence with Supertramp’s hit tracks, and while he was struggling hard to establish himself, it was his wife, Sue Davies, who became his pillar of strength. Sue Davies is the doting wife of Rick Davies, the lead singer of Supertramp, who took care of his life and career. The couple stayed together for more than 5 decades, until Rick passed away in 2025. She not only stayed by his side as a partner, but also supported him in his professional journey. In 1984, Sue took over as the manager of the rock band, following Dave Margereson's step down from his position. For the uninitiated, in 1974, Dave took over as Supertramp’s full-time manager, and in 1983, he left the rock band.

After Sue joined the rock band, she ensured that everything ran smoothly there. She helped in organising the band’s tours, recordings, and business matters. In this way, she became a key figure, who kept supporting her husband, Rick’s music and career by remaining behind the scenes. Although, Sue preferred to keep her personal life private and kept herself out of the media glare, she stood by her husband's side, both at home and in his work. The duo lived together in Long Island, New York. From his initial days of struggle to worldwide fame, Sue was always by his side, playing a key role in his journey without drawing any attention towards herself.

Rick and Sue’s love story began before the rock band, Supertramp became world-famous with their 1979 hit album, Breakfast in America. For those unaware, Breakfast in America became the rock band’s best-selling album, and more than four million copies were sold. It also topped the U.S. charts and held the first position on the Billboard 200 for six weeks. Rick tied the knot with Sue in 1977, when the band was experiencing their rising success.

Sue became Rick’s biggest supporter during the tough times, when he had creative clashes with Supertramp’s co-founder, Roger Hodgson, who left the band in 1983. She also remained by his side when Rick was diagnosed with a serious health scare in 2015. Besides being a phenomenal artist, Rick was known for his devotion, love and care towards his wife, Sue and his family.

Rick Davies took his last breath on September 6, 2025, at his residential home in Long Island, New York. The band took to their social media handle and confirmed the death of their lead singer on September 7, 2025. According to them, Rick succumbed to death after a long illness. For the unversed, in 2015, Rick was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, for which the band’s 2015 tour was cancelled. An excerpt from the statement can be read as:

"The Supertramp Partnership is very sad to announce the death of the Supertramp founder, Rick Davies, after a long illness. We had the privilege of knowing him, and playing with him for over 50 years. We offer our sincere condolences to [Davies’ wife and the band’s manager] Sue Davies."
