Film promotions have undergone a significant increase in the last few years, where celebrities set out for a promotional spree to make Instagram reels, attend fan events, multiple interviews, and even show up for coordinated paparazzi appearances to ensure that they are all over the place. But, amid this, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda did not do any of these to promote their newly released film, Saiyaara, which raised eyebrows. Recently, the film's director, Mohit Suri, revealed what made producers, Yash Raj Films, make the risky call.
Saiyaara had impressive pre-release bookings, and the film has collected Rs. 21 crore on its opening day, reported Sacnilk. While moviegoers are waiting for collection figures, internet users were curious why the film's pair was away from the film promotions. Mohit Suri, who has been giving interviews instead of them, was recently asked about the question in an interview with Just Too Filmy. In his reply, the filmmaker explained that it was a collective decision taken by the makers of the film. In his words:
"It was an idea that collectively came forward."
He explained that YRF's head, Aditya Chopra, who guided them through the filmmaking process for the film, felt that since the lead pair had no major work behind them, they would be asked meaningless questions. For instance, the interviewer might ask, "Who was the prankster on set?" or details about their experience of working on the film, which is not something the audience wants to know. Consequently, they decided to drop the plan of sending Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda for promotions.
Mohit Suri earlier created a stir when he revealed in an interview with Pinkvilla that Saiyaara was earlier meant to be Aashiqui 3. Since then, internet users have been comparing the two. Taking the example of Aashiqui 2, Mohit Suri explained that when the team was shooting in Goa, no one recognised Shraddha Kapoor or Aditya Roy Kapur. However, things immediately changed after the film's release, which made the duo an overnight sensation. Talking about the reaction Aditya and Shraddha got, Mohit said:
"Later, near the release of the film, we had to catch a flight back from Chandigarh, and while we were in the air, the first show of the movie broke out. Upon landing, I saw Shraddha and Aditya getting mobbed by the flight crew, fans and everyone around them, and the way they treated them after was way different. They weren't being praised for their looks, not how we pushed them, but what the audience saw and connected with."
Saiyaara is Mohit Suri's newly released romantic musical, which is produced by Yash Raj Films. The film has an ensemble cast composed of Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda, Rajesh Kumar, Varun Badola, Alam Khan, Sid Makkar and more. It has been made on a budget of Rs. 60 crore and has already released on July 18, 2025.
