Beyonce has just ended her Cowboy Carter tour in Las Vegas in a grand finale showdown. While fans and stars like Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Kris Jenner, and Gayle King packed the Allegiant Stadium for the final night of her 32-show tour. Queen Bey gave the fans a surprise by bringing out her old bandmates from Destiny's Child.
Midway through the show, the crowd couldn't stop cheering when Beyonce stepped out with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in matching gold ensembles to perform hits like Lose My Breath, Bootylicious and more. It was the former band's first on-stage reunion in seven years. While the moment was emotional for the OG fans of Destiny's Child, many new fans of the singers wondered why Destiny's Child broke up. If you are wondering the same, here's what happened 19 years ago.
Destiny's Child was an American girl group which began in Houston in the early '90s, which was earlier known as Girl's Tyme. They did several local performances and underwent many lineup changes after beginning with Beyonce, Kelly, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett. After a lot of hard work and making a name for themselves locally, the group signed with Columbia Records in 1997 with their new name.
The group rose to fame after the release of their song, No, No, No and their second album, The Writing's on the Wall in 1999. The success of the album featuring songs like Bills, Bills, Bills, and Say My Name brought them to the mainstream music scene. Over the years, the band sold more than 60 million records by 2013. Moreover, Billboard ranked Destiny's Child as one of the greatest musical trios of all time and the 9th most successful artist/band in the 2000s. At the same time, the group had been nominated for 14 Grammy Award nominations and won two of them.
While Destiny's Child tasted one success after the other in front of the scene, things were deteriorating for them behind the scenes. Tensions rose and legal turmoil came when LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett became frustrated with the management of the group. Particularly, they were unhappy with the group's manager and Beyonce's father, Mathew Knowles. They believed that he was favouring Beyonce and Kelly over the others and filed a lawsuit in 2000 against Knowles for breach of partnership and fiduciary duties.
In 2000, both of them were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. However, again, Farrah left after five months. Farrah's exit created another stir because she stated to VLAD TV.com that she was 'verbally attacked by the management' after she was ill and couldn't show up for some promotional events. In contrast, Beyonce claimed that she lacked interest in continuing with them, which made them remove her. Later, they continued as a trio and their third album, Survivor, in 2001, was perceived to be based on their turbulent experience.

They announced a break in the same year and reunited in 2004 for their fifth and final album, Destiny Fulfilled. The band made Beyonce grow more than others, and after the formal disbandment, every member resumed their solo careers, finding different levels of success. After the disbandment of Destiny's Child, Beyonce, Kelly, and Michelle have come together at different occasions, like the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show and the 2018 Coachella festival.
