In September 2023, there were rumours that Sophie and Joe were having trouble in their marital life as Joe was spotted without his wedding ring. Later, it was reported that Joe had consulted lawyers to file for a divorce from Sophie after facing ‘serious’ problems for six months. After a lot of speculation, Joe and Sophie announced their ‘mutual split’, and Joe also asked for joint custody of their two children.

There were many narratives to Sophie and Joe’s split. Some pointed out that she was a ‘party animal’, who loved staying out of home, while Joe looked after their daughters. One of the reports also stated that Sophie was left out because of Joe's hectic tour with Jonas Brothers. Another insider said that Sophie often felt overwhelmed in managing her acting career, parenting two daughters, and coping with Jonas' frequent travel.

Another report by TMZ stated that Sophie felt her marriage was becoming increasingly complicated with each passing day. Sources claim Sophie felt restricted by Joe’s jealousy and public flirting habits. Talking about Joe’s controlling nature, the source claimed:

“Sophie says Joe was too controlling. She also said Joe liked to flirt a little too much while out in public, but then he wouldn’t like it when she would get too close to her male friends. It was clear their marriage was crumbling.”

The ring camera footage was the last straw on Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner’s marriage

The final straw on Joe and Sophie’s relationship happened when he viewed TMZ’s ring camera footage of Sophie. In the footage, she spoke critically about Joe to a friend, which allegedly prompted him to file for divorce. A source revealed to the US Weekly that the camera caught Sophie ‘saying some not-so-nice things about Joe’.

The footage was not released to the public and remained a part of the private divorce proceedings. But the source stated that the marriage was over after the footage, with both parties agreeing to a ‘mutual divorce’ and ‘co-parenting’. As per Elle, the source said:

"It wasn't anything more than that, but that was the final straw [for Jonas]."

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’s custody battle began in 2023, soon after they filed for a divorce. She sued him under the Hague Convention, claiming that he wrongfully kept their daughters in the U.S. instead of returning to England. After the legal proceedings, the couple initially agreed on a temporary agreement, which allowed equal time for their kids in both the U.S. and U.K. homes.

Once the divorce was finalised, Sophie and Joe decided to co-parent their daughters, Willa and Delphine. In an episode of the School of Greatness podcast, Joe talked about co-parenting his daughters and said:

“I have a great co-parenting relationship. My little ones have some incredible women to look up to including their mom.”

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas had a prenup before their marriage, and details of it were disclosed in their divorce documents. As per a report by the Blast, Joe and Sophie had signed an 'ironclad prenuptial agreement' weeks before their 2019 wedding. According to the portal, Joe would keep all royalties from the music he’s created for the Jonas Brothers band and his previous band, DNCE. On the other hand, Sophie was also poised to keep her earnings from her acting career.
