Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Publicly Addresses Rekha As 'Maa', Here Is The Surprising Reason Behind It

The rumours of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s affair made headlines in the 80s and 90s and even to this day, the veteran actors avoid coming face to face. Though the two have moved on in their separate lives and are not in touch with each other. However, one member from the Bachchan clan never fails to show her admiration towards Rekha.

It is none other than Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Aishwarya shares a very warm bond with Rekha and often displayed her emotions towards her. Be it accompanying her towards her car to greeting her in the most special way, the two have often showed their love and admiration for one another.

Why does Aishwarya Rai Bachchan calls Rekha ‘maa’?

But do you know that Aishwarya addresses Rekha as ‘maa’? Yes, you read that right. One of the main reasons behind it is just like Rekha, Aishwarya is also a South Indian and in South elder women are called ‘mother’. Following her culture, Aishwarya addresses Rekha as her mother and she too loves her like her own daughter.

Once during the Star Screen Awards, Aishwarya Rai was awarded for her performance in her comeback film, Jazbaa. However, the moment turned special as she received the award from Rekha. While receiving the award, Aishwarya thanked Rekha and said, “It’s great to receive it from maa.” To which, Rekha replied:

“I hope I can come and present this to you for many more years.”

Rekha penned an emotional letter to Aishwarya Rai

When Aishwarya Rai completed 20 years in cinema, Rekha penned a heartmelting letter for her, which was published in the 2018 edition of Femina. In the letter, Rekha addressed how bravely Aishwarya faced the struggles in her life to reach a dignified stature. Not only this, in her long letter, Rekha addressed herself as ‘Rekha Maa’. An excerpt from the letter can be read as:

“My Ash, A woman like you who is in harmony with her spirit is like a flowing river, never stagnant. Having endured many hurdles, like the phoenix you rise! And I cannot pen down in words how proud I am of that little ‘cool’ moon-faced girl who took my breath away from the very instant I first laid my eyes on her. Two decades of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan- wow! Aashirwads and duas I wish for you more goodness and blessings; much more than your heart can contain! Love you. Jeete raho. Rekha Ma.”

Rekha never gets tired of heaping praises on Aishwarya Rai. Back in 2017, the actresses shared a heartfelt moment at Filmfare’s Glamour and Style Awards. While handing the prestigious award to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rekha praised Aishwarya’s beauty and jokingly said:

“Aishwarya’s mother kept seeing my photos when she was pregnant, and this is the result.”

During Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding, the entire Bachchan family came together without Aishwarya Rai and Aaradhya Bachchan. While the entire family posed together for the paps, the absence of Aishwarya and Aaradhya raised many eyebrows. Moments later, Aishwarya arrived at the bash but chose to make a separate entry. However, just before she entered, the former Miss World could be seen having a warm interaction with legendary actress, Rekha. Moreover, the latter even gave Aishwarya a kiss and a tight hug.
