Travis Kelce is back in the headlines, and this time it is not just for his fairy-tale engagement to Taylor Swift. Instead, he is in the news for a shocking on-field clash that has taken over the internet.
The incident comes just days after Travis made his return to professional football for the Kansas City Chiefs' season opener in Brazil following his engagement. A moment that should have been a celebratory comeback turned into a chaotic scene mid-game when Los Angeles Chargers' Teair Tart slapped Travis, leaving both sports fans and Swifties in shock. Here's what led to the heated moment.
The shocking incident took place at Sao Paulo's Neo Química Arena on September 5, 2025. During the second quarter of the match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers, Travis was left shocked when Teair, in what referees later described as an 'open-handed blow,' struck him across the face. In turn, Travis Kelce immediately threw his arms in the air in disbelief, where he seemed to wait for the officials to remove Teair from the game as a punishment. Surprisingly, the LA Chargers player remained in the game, though the LA Chargers were penalised 15 yards for the unsportsmanlike conduct.
Some fans speculated that Teair's slap may have been a heat-of-the-moment reaction during an intense game. But some other fans believe it could have been a deliberate attempt to rattle Travis, given the spotlight on his high-profile return after engagement to Taylor Swift. While the exact reason is not confirmed, Taylor and Travis's fans immediately began to criticise Teair. However, he remained unbothered, and the LA Chargers won. Later, he shared a clip from Dave Chappelle's famous Rick James skit where the comedian quips, "What did the five fingers say to the face? Slap!" paired with laughing emojis, leaving furious fans.
Teair Tart was born on February 28, 1997, in Philadelphia. He has worked his way up the NFL ladder with sheer grit. With a height of 6'2" and 315 pounds, he began his college football career at ASA College and later at Florida International University. He was undrafted in 2020 before signing with the Tennessee Titans, followed by the Houston Texans and the Miami Dolphins for short periods. He signed with the LA Chargers in August 2024 and is popular for his aggressive defensive style. He has racked up more than 100 tackles in his career.

They shared the news via dreamy social media pictures, which showed Travis on his knees as he popped the question to Taylor in a rose-filled garden. She playfully captioned the moment by writing:
"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."
