The Los Angeles Dodgers have engraved their name into baseball history after they won their ninth World Series title and became the first team in the last 25 years to defend the Commissioner's Trophy. In a thrilling and nail-biting 11th-inning matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Dodgers are now tied with the Red Sox and Athletics in third position with nine titles in the list of MLB teams with the most World Series titles. In the second position, we have the Cardinals with 11, and the New York Yankees at the top with 27.
The Toronto Blue Jays led early in the series and were standing just two outs away from winning their third title. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Dodgers ruined their plans after they made a surreal comeback and tied the contest 4-4 in the ninth. Just when everyone was hoping for a moment of brilliance, it was Dodgers catcher, Will Smith who rose to the occasion, and his towering 11-inning home run sealed a 5-4 victory for his team.

There's no denying the fact that Will Smith has etched his name among the list of Dodgers' Hall of Famers after becoming a three-time All-Star catcher and World Series champion (2020, 2024, 2025). He is indeed a modern-day living legend in MLB. The 30-year-old catcher is renowned for his clutch hitting and leadership qualities, which is why he rarely has haters in the game. Even at 30, the way he is playing, Smith is showing signs of slowing down, which indeed makes him a headache for the opposing teams in the MLB.

Time and again, we have seen Will Smith always giving credit for his moments of individual brilliance to others. Sometimes, to the fans for pushing him, on other occasions to his team and its coaching staff, the man never let the spotlight rest on his head. However, among all the people who have played a crucial role in his development, we rarely talk about Smith's backbone—the person who has been his constant source of motivation right from his college days.

Yes! We are talking about his wife, Cara Smith, who deserves much of the credit for Will Smith's exponential rise to MLB fame and success. Before we talk about Cara's impact on Smith's success story, let's take a look at her life. According to multiple reports, Cara Smith was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the same place where Smith was born in 1995. She is one of the most-followed MLB WAGs, with 41.9K followers on her IG account (@caramartinellsmith). Apart from documenting her life on social media, Cara is also the co-founder of Catching Hope Foundation. She actively works in empowering vulnerable children through leadership, mentoring, and educational programs.

Will Smith and Cara Smith Martinell are from the same place, Louisville, Kentucky, and they first crossed paths at a birthday party. Both of them studied at the University of Louisville, and after meeting, they became good friends and eventually fell in love. She was pursuing a degree in education in college, and while Cara was focused on becoming a teacher, Smith was pursuing his dream of becoming a professional baseball player.
After the completion of their graduation degree, Cara Martinell started working as a teacher, while Will Smith had already started his MLB journey with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite their opposite schedules and the long distance between them, they continued their relationship and, finally, in December 2019, Smith and Cara got married in an intimate wedding ceremony. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Charlotte, in October 2022, and their second daughter, Layton Elizabeth, entered their family in October 2024.
Cara Smith Martinell has played a crucial role in Will Smith's journey, from his college baseball days to his 2016 draft by the Dodgers to his 2020 World Series title. However, in his success journey, Cara is the one who has sacrificed her career as a teacher to raise their two daughters. Since quitting her job, she has been working as a full-time mommy, Smith's biggest motivator, and managing the operations of their foundation. We hope Cara gets her share of fame and recognition for the huge role that she continues to play in Smith's life.
