After waiting for three long years, Wednesday Season 2 is finally back on Netflix with a new gothic mystery, psychic visions, and chaos. The audience has been delighted to see the old cast reprise their characters with some new faces bringing in more haunting secrets and sharp liners. But while fans were trying to decode the new journey of the varied characters, one major character was noticeably absent. Well, we are talking about 'Xavier Thorpe', the artistic outcast, played by Percy Hynes White, who was nowhere to be found this time. So, it has left fans wondering where 'Xavier' is, and is this the end of Percy Hynes White's journey on Wednesday?
'Xavier Thorpe' was not just any other student at Nevermore, but he was a key figure in 'Wednesday Addams' first-year journey at the Academy. Introduced as a brooding artist with psychic powers, he had a complex bond with 'Wednesday'. She was suspicious about him; he secretly had a soft corner for her, and both had a reluctant respect for each other. He came under spotlight when 'Wednesday' suspected him of being the 'Hyde' monster, which led to his unjust arrest.
When the truth about his innocence came out, and 'Taylor' was revealed to be the real villain, 'Xavier' tried to improve himself and even gifted 'Wednesday' her first-ever phone, which led to a major mystery in season 2. His layered storyline and emotional connection to the protagonist, 'Wednesday' itself, is proof that he didn't have a minor role in the first season. Consequently, his absence immediately alarmed fans who had been questioning the reason behind it and wondering if he would ever return.
The root cause for Percy Hynes White's absence goes back to January 2023 when after the success of Wednesday, a Twitter (now X) user accused the actor of sexual misconduct. The allegations went viral in no time. Later, in June that year, he addressed the matter on Instagram and termed it a 'campaign of misinformation', claiming the rumours were untrue. There is no formal confirmation about the accusation, but the actor stepped back from the show. A year later, he unofficially confirmed his departure by posting a behind-the-scenes photo from Season 1 with the caption.
"Had so much fun working on this show. I can't wait to watch season 2 :) Much love."
Meanwhile, Jenna Ortega, who plays 'Wednesday' and now also serves as executive producer, commented on the situation during a conversation with Vanity Fair and called it "a weird redirect". She noted that season 2 introduces many new characters, which might help soften the absence. In the case of the storyline, rather than 'Wednesday' pretending 'Xavier' never existed, the new principal informs her in the first episode that 'Xavier's father pulled him out of Nevermore after the false accusations. In addition, his father took away financial support from Nevermore, opening the path for 'Morticia Addams' to step in.
