Gangster movie singer, Zubeen Garg, who is best known for crooning the song, Ya Ali, from the movie, passed away. The cause of his demise was a tragic scuba diving accident back in Singapore. Reportedly, the Singapore police rescued Zubeen from the sea, and he was taken immediately to the nearest hospital. However, he could not be saved despite being placed in an intensive medical care unit.

Zubeen was all set to perform at the North East Festival on September 20, 2025, and his demise has shocked the entire nation as well as the Assamese music industry. For the unversed, Zubeen always kept his personal life private. He was married to Garima Saikia Garg and was known as the heartthrob of Assam. Here's everything to know about Zubeen's relationship with Garima, which had to undergo a rocky period.

Zubeen Garg had multiple relationships before he met Garima Saikia Garg

Zubeen has often been very vocal about his relationships on many occasions. According to a report by The Sentinel Assam, he had confessed on multiple occasions to having multiple girlfriends. This was back when he was growing up, where he had relationships in schools, colleges and also in his career. When Zubeen was travelling with his dad, he was initially studying in Tamulpur. Here he had two girlfriends called, Junmoni and Runjun. Reportedly, he created Junmoni Rumjun after he took inspiration from both his girlfriends.

Zubeen Garg's relationships were not long-term

For those who are not familiar, Zubeen's full name is Zubeen Borthakur, but he is more commonly known to his fans as Zubeen Garg. Reportedly, he uses his Garg, which is his Gotra name, and got his name from the renowned music composer, Zubin Mehta, who is known for his work in both Western and Eastern classical music. Zubeen's dad had composed many poems under the name of Kapil Thakur. However, on a personal level, his relationships were quite informal and did not last long.

Zubeen Garg's love story with his wife, Garima, first started with a letter

Zubeen was a famous singer, actor and composer from Assam. On the other hand, Garima hails from Golaghat, Assam, and has been a professional fashion designer. According to reports, it was Garima who first contacted Zubeen via a letter. She had listened to his albums named Anamika and Maya. Back then, she was studying in Mumbai. It was destiny that got both of them together, as Zubeen did reply to Garima.

Zubeen Garg entered Garima Saikia Garg's life when she was homesick

Reportedly, when Zubeen had given a reply to Garima, she was feeling homesick, and it was at that time that he made a stunning entry into her life. Garima did have a lot of admiration for Zubeen; however, like every relationship, they also had their share of highs and lows.

Garima Saikia Garg found it difficult to deal with Zubeen Garg because of his behaviour; her parents didn't approve

Zubeen and Garima did start dating, and one day he did propose to her. Like every relationship, they had to face their own sets of challenges. This was because Garima's family, especially her dad, did not approve of the relationship. When Garima officially started dating Zubeen, she could not even understand his complex behaviour. Garima at that time had decided to part ways with the singer who got his first big break in Bollywood with Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut's movie, Gangster, 2006.

Garima Garg got back to Zubeen Garg when he fought depression

Zubeen's song, 'Ya Ali, ' made him win the best playback singer award in the Global Indian Film Awards. However, when Garima left Zubeen, he was also fighting depression because of some references in his songs. It was difficult for her to deal with his 'restless behaviour'. It is said that some of his tracks have been influenced by the separation he underwent with Garima. However, when luck was in his favour, Zubeen and Garima got back and then tied the knot on February 4, 2002. Zubeen Garg's song, Ya Ali, has a line which goes like, "Bina tere na ek pal hoh. Na bin tere koi kal hoh. Yeh dil banjaye patthar ka. Na esme koi halchal ho."
