The young actor teamed up with critically acclaimed filmmaker, Vikramaditya Motwane to present viewers with an engaging web series titled Black Warrant. The crime drama thriller premiered on Netflix on January 10, 2025, and instantly created social media buzz. The series is based on Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhary's 2019 non-fiction book, Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer.
The web series explores the true events of a rookie jailer, Sunil Gupta, who was once posted in Tihar Jail. Zahan Kapoor's acting performance as the rookie jailer named Sunil Kumar Gupta in Vikramaditya Motwane's Black Warrant has blown away the viewers and critics. Netizens are in awe of his performance. Some have even said they've seen such natural acting after a very long time. For the uninitiated, Zahan made his acting debut with Hansal Mehta's Netflix film, Faraaz (2022).
However, for people who are aware of Zahan Kapoor's family background, it is not a big surprise. It is because he is the grandson of one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema, Shashi Kapoor. The young actor, Zahan Kapoor, has reminded some senior film critics of the golden days when his grandfather, Shashi Kapoor, made his acting debut in 1961 with the film, Dharmputra.
While watching Black Warrant, many people saw shades of Shashi Kapoor in his grandson, Zahan. In an interview with The Times Of India, Zahan Kapoor revealed that he is the only actor in the Kapoor family after his grandfather, Shashi Kapoor, who went to theatre first and then entered into films. Sharing how proud he is to follow in Shashi Kapoor's footsteps, Zahan said:
"I am also very proud that I started acting in the theatre. After my Dadaji, I am the only Kapoor who has started in theatre. I feel proud that I can walk in his footsteps."
Zahan Kapoor was born in Mumbai on March 11, 1992, to his parents, Kunal Kapoor and Sheena Sippy. While Kunal is the son of iconic actor, Shashi Kapoor, Sheena is the daughter of legendary filmmaker, Ramesh Sippy. The couple's marriage date isn't available in the public domain, but it is reported that Kunal and Sheena parted ways in 2004.
Despite being blessed with two children, Zahan Kapoor and Shaira Kapoor, they parted ways after the court granted them divorce in 2004. At the time of their divorce, Zahan was just 12, and it was a difficult phase for him and his sister to deal with their parents' divorce.
In an interview with The Times Of India, Zahan Kapoor shared that his father, Kunal Kapoor, made him start working at the age of 15-16. Revealing his first job, Zahan shared that he worked with an associate director without a salary. However, he admitted that he learnt so much about filmmaking and how things work on the sets.
The youngster worked at the Prithvi Theatre for some years, during which he assisted Sunil Shahbag and made his theatre debut in Makarand Deshpande's play, Pitaji Please. Even after making his debut in Bollywood with Faraaz, Zahan Kapoor returned to theatre and performed in the play, Siachen. Besides being an actor, Zahan is also a skilled polo player who secured a win in the ARC Challenge Cup with his team, Benaz Corp, back in 2018.
Talking about Zahan Kapoor's relationship status, he is reportedly in a committed relationship. The Black Warrant actor is allegedly dating Krishita Shetty, a renowned fashion model. Time and again, we have spotted the rumoured couple together at events and gatherings. For the unversed, Zahan and Krishita's dating rumours were almost confirmed when the latter was spotted at Kapoor's Christmas lunch in 2023. However, it is unknown whether they're still together, but their fans continue to speculate that Zahan and Krishita are in a steady relationship.
