Veteran actor and interior designer, Zarine Khan, wife of actor-filmmaker, Sanjay Khan, and mother of actor, Zayed Khan, passed away recently at the age of 81. Family members confirmed her demise, and her last rites were performed as per Hindu customs at the Santacruz Hindu Crematorium in Mumbai. The ceremony was attended by her husband, Sanjay Khan, her son, Zayed, and her daughters, Sussanne Khan, Farah Khan Ali, and Simone Arora, along with close relatives and friends from the film industry.
Zarine, who hailed from a Parsi-Hindu background and was born Zarine Katrak, had expressed her wish to have a Hindu-style funeral, which her family fulfilled. Although she had married a Muslim but never converted to Islam after her marriage to Sanjay Khan, Zarine reportedly maintained her spiritual connection with her faith of birth throughout her life. Her dah sanskar was performed in accordance with her last wish.
Amid her final farewell, details about her son, Zayed Khan’s wedding have resurfaced, reflecting the same sense of interfaith respect and unity that defined the Khan family. Before his mother’s funeral, Zayed and his wife, Malaika Parekh, had also honoured both religions when they married. According to reports, Zayed and Malaika first held a Hindu wedding ceremony in Goa, followed by a nikah. Their Hindu wedding took place at the Taj Village, where the couple exchanged garlands and took the seven pheras around the sacred fire, with a pandit officiating. Only close friends and family attended this intimate celebration.

Many from the film fraternity paid their last respects, including Hrithik Roshan, who shares a close bond with the family as the ex-husband of Susanne Khan.

Zarine Khan began her career as a model before venturing into films in the early 1960s. Known for her elegance and charm, she appeared in the Dev Anand-starrer Tere Ghar Ke Samne (1963), marking her brief yet memorable stint in Bollywood.
