Zeenat Aman Birthday Special: When Actress Revealed Of Taking A Break To Focus On Her Children

Zeenat Aman turned 73 on November 19, 2024. The actress was a top star in the 1970s and 1980s, dominating the Hindi film industry. However, she married Mazhar Khan, her second husband, in 1985. Bollywood's heartthrob then took a break from the showbiz industry and focused on her kids' lives.

Zeenat Aman's reason for stepping aside from the acting industry

During an interview with Hindustan Times, Zeenat opened up about the reason for stepping aside from Bollywood. Her peers like Hema Malini, and Shabana Azmi were also at the peak of their careers. Zeenat mentioned that after she lost Mazhar , her focus shifted, and she became more dedicated to improving her kids' lives. She wanted them to have a fulfilling life and be with them while they were growing up. In her words:

"I wanted to give them a quality life and didn't want to miss out on their growing up years."

Zeenat Aman had thought of returning to acting

Going ahead in the interview, Zeenat also revealed that the thought of returning to acting struck her. However, she decided not to return because her priorities had changed, and she had taken a long break from the acting world. However, Zeenat does not regret her decision. Zeenat further shared that when things started to settle, and she considered returning to acting, she realized she had distanced herself too much from the film industry. She chose not to come back, explaining that her priorities had shifted, and this time, stepping away from her career was a conscious decision. Zeenat had then resorted to her time to teaching, and theater and said:

"When you're content with what you're doing, you don't feel the absence of anything. There's so much more to my life today. Acting is just part of it."

Zeenat Khan once shared the reason for leaving Mazhar Khan

Zeenat was earlier married to Sanjay Khan and reportedly left him because of his alleged toxic behaviour. It was in 1985 when she married Mazhar; however, in less than a year, she decided to end the marriage. Eventually, she left him after 12 years. During an earlier chat with Simi Grewal for her talk show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal , Zeenat revealed the reason for leaving Mazhar. In her words:

 “Whatever he was doing, he was inflicting further damage on himself, and I couldn't stay there and watch him do that. What really happened is that he became addicted to prescription drugs, painkillers. He was at one point taking seven a day, and the doctor had said that there was a good possibility that his kidneys would pack up."

Zeenat Aman still cared for Mazhar Khan, after leaving him

The Hare Ram Hare Krishna actress went on to reveal in the interview that Mazhar's kidneys had become affected, and she took a very long time to leave him because of her caring nature. She fought many battles for him and found it difficult to part ways with him, for it was a matter of 'self-preservation' for the actress.
