Popular actor, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub is married to writer-actor-director, Rasika Agashe and the duo's marriage is an example of inter-faith marriage. But they never miss a chance to give proper couple goals whenever they appear publicly or with their PDA in their social media posts. Recently, Zeeshan and Rasika were seen in Hansal Mehta's latest released web series, Scoop. Now, Rasika opened up about her inter-faith marriage and revealed an unmissable anecdote from their life.
In an interaction with Siddharth Kannan, Rasika Agashe opened up about her inter-faith marriage with the popular actor, Zeeshan Ayyub. She pointed towards the Tanishq Ad controversy, which she had earlier faced and revealed how she was utterly unknown to the social media trolling until Zeeshan mentioned her the same. Elaborating more on the incident after she tweeted about her life as an inter-faith couple some years ago, in response to the Tanishq advertisement, Rasika said:

“I posted that tweet and didn’t think much about it, social media was still a new thing for me. Some time later, Zeeshan asked me what I had done. My phone’s battery had died, so he asked me to charge it and see all the trolling that was happening. ‘Oh, so this is what trolling is,’ I remember saying.”

In 2020, a popular jewellery brand, Tanishq, showed a Hindu-Muslim marriage, and following this, the Hindu bride was seen getting a baby shower, which stirred controversy in the media. Some people also thought the advertisement propagated the 'Love jihad' concept. The controversy was ignited so much that the brand had to put down the advertisement, and an attack on a Tanishq store in Surat was also reported. Soon, reacting to the news, Rasika had taken to her Twitter handle and shared a picture from her godh bharai ceremony. Rashika's caption can be read as "Meri godbharai.. socha share kar dun.. and before crying out love jihad, lets learn about special marriage act..." But Rashika too had to face a huge backlash due to the same.
In the same conversation, Rasika shared how belonging to an upper religious background, she has many privileges in her life, which are otherwise not given to those belonging to the lower religious background groups. She also added how she has more freedom to speak her mind than her husband, and many such other rights by birth. Afterwards, she revealed that it was only after her marriage to Zeeshan that she got to know about his religious identity. She stated:

“I always tell him, I’m a part of the majority in this country, and I do a lot without thinking much about it. And I wish he could do this as well. Being a part of the majority, you feel bad that the minority has to consider everything so carefully. My name is Rasika Agashe, people will think twice before trolling me. Minorities should also be able to feel this way. You feel bad about it. I realised that Zeeshan is a part of the minority after I married him. As someone who belongs to the majority, there are so many things you are clueless about."

For the unversed, Rasika and Zeeshan got married in 2007, and they have two children. Both of them were students of the National School of Drama. Later, they shifted to Mumbai when they were just 24. However, when the duo initially moved to Mumbai, they had only Rs 40,000, and there was barely any income for the first few years. In another recent interview, Zeeshan shared their struggle with the little amount of money they had with which they survived in the City of Dreams and how they laugh thinking about those days now. Zeeshan revealed:
“It was a tiny house, with a terrace, where we would just dry clothes and use it for nothing else. He took our money, so we were actually down to zero money in the city. I remember once we were sitting together and laughing, thinking hum kitne bewakoof hai, kya sochke aagaye hai, what will happen now?"
